- In a popular skiing area of the stunning scenic Norwegian Fjords
- A five-minute drive from Sjøholt and 50 minutes from Ålesund
- Restaurant, terrace, bike hire, ski-to-door access, ski equipment hire
Pining for the fjords? Satisfy cravings with a trip to Fjellstova Ørskogfjellet, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the village of Sjøholt in Møre og Romsdal county. Among the fjords of western Norway, this is a particularly scenic spot to use as a base for hols year round.
During warmer and drier weather, hire bikes on site for pretty pedals as far as Sjøholt, or clamber into the car instead on a 40-minute trip for Høgkubben-based hikes. This is also prime time to be making the most of the communal barbecue, or to be holding court on the restaurant’s sun terrace, while kids scoot about on go-karts or get rid of energy at the playground.
When the snows set in, there’s no need for days to get duller. The site is less than five minutes from the nearest ski centre, and the site provides ski-to-door access. No worries about lugging all that kit along for the journey either – ski equipment is available for hire on site, and guests can buy ski passes and sign up for ski school without having to leave base.
Prefer a more leisurely activity? Take a swing at a quiet day at the golf club 15 minutes away, or head a little further afield (30 minutes) to afternoons of horse riding at Stall Kjersem.

Local attractions
Skiing needs not fully satiated on site? Never fear – it’s just over an hour’s drive to Romsdalen, where visitors can take part in ski touring or (during less snowy months) hiking and climbing. There are also some spectacular waterfalls to have a gander at, if peaceably wandering in nature appeals.
Romsdalen is in a particularly mountainous part of the country, so stunning views are somewhat de rigueur hereabouts. About 55 minutes in the car will bring guests to Rampestreken view point, where a walkway arcs out into the great wide open, meaning uninterrupted views as far as the eye can see.
If urban days more appeal, turn tyres instead to Ålesund (50 minutes), a port town with an art nouveau vibe, museums, a lighthouse and a stadium (as well as shops, of course), and be sure to make a pit stop on the way at the outdoor museum dedicated to old boats and houses, Sunnmøre (40 minutes).
Travel just a little bit further to explore the islands beyond Ålesund too. These are all connected by bridge, so travelling to and fro should be a cinch. The closest, Hessa, puts Atlantic Sea-Park (one of the largest saltwater aquariums in Norway) within an hour's drive, while pretty Godøy should be wandered for its lighthouse, mountain and lake.
