It's free, quick and easy!
- Family site under 10 mins' drive from Torre del Lago and 25 from Pisa
- A 10-minute free shuttle bus or half an hour's walk from the beach
- Pool, bakery, bar, restaurant, supermarket and play area
For hols combining beach life with wanders around Tuscany’s tree-lined landscapes, make your way to Juliette Tentvakanties at Camping Paradiso. This beauty of a site’s a 30-minute stroll from a kilometres-long stretch of sand reachable through pretty pine forestry; there’s also a free shuttle bus plying the longer route round from the park for easier – albeit slightly less scenic – access.
Swims in the sea too hectic for the kids? There’s a pool at this Tuscan-based park, as well as a paddling area for smaller guests. Energetic young ones can scamper round the playground or on the football field as well, before refuelling on pizza and pasta feasts with the rest of the clan at the site’s restaurant. A car-free policy – you’ll leave your ride in a designated area outside the park – means Juliette Tentvakanties at Camping Paradiso’s an especially popular option for families.
Meals with a view can be had at the snack shacks and eateries down by the beach, but if you’re cooking for yourself – perhaps on one of the site’s barbecues – a small supermarket is on hand to keep you stocked up. You can also pick up bits and bobs like postcards and swim caps here, and there's a bakery for sourcing your breakfast pastries.
The on-site bar’s a stellar spot for swapping travel tips with other holidaymakers over an Italian beer as the sun goes down… and the lively club scene of Torre del Lago, under a 10-minute drive away, is waiting for those who want to stretch the night out for longer.

Local attractions
For the freedom to roam around the Versilia area, there are bikes for hire from Camping Paradiso, so bag one and head off on the 2.2-kilometre ride into Viaréggio, which takes 10 minutes by car. This is the birthplace of one of Italy’s most famed carnivals, where floats satirising local and international politicians bob through the streets in early spring each year.
Missing the festivities? Get a glimpse of what they’re like at the museum in the town’s La Cittadella complex… or head in the opposite direction to Torre del Lago and take in a different type of culture at Puccini’s 16th-century home. This town holds an annual event dedicated to the composer in mid-summer, where you can catch opera performances.
Further along, at around 25 minutes, try Lago di Massaciuccoli for boat rides and birdwatching, or zip along to Pisa for a look at the famed leaning tower. Alternatively, one of Tuscany’s often-underrated cities, Lucca, with its circular main piazza set on the site of a Roman Amphitheater, is accessible just over half an hour's drive away.
