It's free, quick and easy!
- Leafy and shaded site on the banks of the Ardèche river
- A 10-minute walk from Chauzon and 15 kilometres from the Pont d’Arc
- Swimming, fishing and canoe and kayak rental all from the site
For stays where gentle activity, dappled shade and the soothing sound of running water wash your troubles away, head along to Camping Le Beauessement, a family-friendly site two minutes’ drive (or a 10-minute walk) from the Rhône-Alpes village of Chauzon.
On the banks of the Ardèche river, the site is particularly well placed for scenic watery explores. Canoes and kayaks can be hired on site, putting the famed Pont d’Arc about 15 kilometres’ paddle (or 25 minutes' drive) away, and the spectacular ‘European Grand Canyon’ – the Gorges d’Ardèche – and its hikes, drives and canoe trips are just a little further (40-minute drive, or about 25 kilometres by water).
If arms can’t manage that journey, stick closer to base, where Ardèche swims should cool the family off during days under the French sun and fishing is a solid option for peaceful and introspective afternoons. When a little more activity is needed, there’s also table tennis, table football and pétanque on site, as well as a games room and playground.
Keeping everyone well fed is a cinch, as meals are within an easy stroll at the snack bar or takeaway, fresh bread and pastry is available daily, and there’s a small grocery store on site if something home-cooked appeals.

Local attractions
Begin explores of the area around site with visits to wander the streets of some of the pretty Rhône-Alpes villages nearby. The brick-faced houses of Chauzon are a good place to start, before broadening searches to take in the limestone-clad Ruoms (15 minutes), the clifftop Balazuc (a 15-minute drive), the river-hugging Labeaume (20 minutes) and hilly Vogüé (25 minutes).
Once the villages have been exhausted, dive into the past with a trip half an hour away to the Caverne du Pont d’Arc, a man-made cave replicating the stunning drawings, paintings and engravings of the UNESCO-protected Chauvet Cave nearby. Stay below ground at Aven d’Orgnac or Madeleine caves, 35 minutes and 50 minutes from base respectively, or return to the surface for visits to some of the grand houses hereabouts...
The spectacular 12th- to 16th-century Château de Montréal puts heraldry classes, archery, knight fights and burlesque within a 20-minute drive, and Château des Roure (half an hour) has a 14th-century castle to explore, a silk farm to marvel at and a trebuchet to stand in awe of.
Prefer to spend some time in the great wide open? There’s world-famed climbing about five minutes away at Cirque de Gens and it’s less than 15 minutes to biking, riding and hiking in the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Nature Park.
