- Southern Burgundy site by the Saône river
- A 15-minute walk from the town centre of Chalon-sur-Saône
- Bar and takeaway open in all seasons and with big covered terrace
Burgundy, of course. And a particularly beaut part of Burgundy too, as Camping Du Pont de Bourgogne in the south of the region is on the banks of the Saône river for water views, and has cycling trails starting from its grounds for saddling up in spectacular surrounds. It's a 15-minute stroll from here to the medieval and half-timbered buildings of the handsome town centre of Chalon-sur-Saône, a designated French Town of Art and History.
The kids might not care a whit about this next feature of the site, but grownups just might… the amenities here, including showers, toilets, disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom, are kept to tiptop standards, acclaimed as 'spotless' and 'immaculate' among other accolades from grateful former guests.
For other essentials, the friendly team here wants to make your stay as cosy and as comfy as poss: they've added a comely bar and takeaway with a large covered terrace, both open through all seasons, and a restaurant service throughout high season in July and August. Also available are a shop with a small range of products, free wifi access in the snack bar, and bike hire from reception.
Camping Du Pont de Bourgogne is within easy reach from the A6 motorway, for stopovers here on your way to the south (or back to the north). But do stick around for some time too, as this is a highly nifty Burgundy base for investigating the region and its cities, along with its world-famed restaurants, its markets, its regular festivals and events, its wine region, its châteaux…

Local attractions
Camping Pont de Bourgogne is a 15-minute walk to the town centre of Chalon-sur-Saône, a medieval riverside town with piles of fine old buildings around its main square and tiny side streets. Venture forth here on a Friday or Sunday if you can, to pick up tasty local treats at the busy market in the main square, then retreat for refreshments and people watching at one of the square's cafés.
Within less than 10 minutes' walk is the sports centre of Chalon-sur-Saône, spacious and modern with 14 bowling lanes; a public pool area with a new 600m² pool with waves and waterslides, two recently renovated 50-metre and 25-metre pools, and a new wellness area with whirlpool, hammam and a fitness cardio training space.
For day trips, take yourself along to Tournus for a look at its 17th-century hospital with accompanying apothecary, one of the oldest in France and sure to fascinate the kids, and at the famed Saint Philibert Abbey, the only surviving set of 12th-century monastic buildings of this sort in Europe. For a quieter time, the sand dunes and peat bogs of the Truchere-Ratenelle nature reserve are just outside town.
An 18-hole golf course is within a kilometre of the site, next to a marina, a football pitch, volleyball courts and a large playground.
