It's free, quick and easy!
- Leafy lakeside site surrounded by Burgundy vineyards
- Barge trips along the Burgundy Canal from Pouilly-en-Auxois, 17km away
- Lake beach, bike rental and outdoor pool with whirlpool
What a beaut lakeside setting this is: with direct access to an eight-hectare natural lake and its sandy beach, Camping Étang de Fouché also lies halfway between Paris and Geneva and is a swift drive to Saulieu, Beaune and Dijon and several beaut medieval villages, making day trips around the region as easy as is a super relaxing stay on site.
Fouché has been cleverly laid out as such so that kids may get on with the important job of mucking about freely so that grownups can loll about with a book and a contented attitude too: while the kids frolic and make new pals at the neighbouring playground, swirl yourself into a state of super relaxed serenity with a hang at the pool’s whirlpool bench, do a few easy lengths or relax with a trashy tome at the solarium.
For a spot of sunbathing or swimming au naturel, the lake and its beach is the place to plonk oneself; in July and August you’ll be able to rent pedal boats, paddles, waterslides to whizz down or around on here, and the waters are supervised by diligent lifeguards during high season too for extra relaxation factor; and avid anglers are also well catered to here, with fishing licenses at reception for passage at the lake.
Get-fit fans will find a most agreeable fitness trail around the site, while volleyball can be played at the beach, and tennis over at the courts when they need to exert a bit of extra energy... And those who wish to get around the site most easily – or get out and explore the scenic surrounds – can avail themselves of the park’s superly handy bike rental service.
When you’ve finished working up a sweat, you'll be pleased to know that you can hit up any one of the park's four sanitary blocks to give yourself a good hot hosing down at any time of the day or night.

Local attractions
Burgundy is ramajam with with historic castles, wineries and gastronomic options. For starters, the site’s local town of Arnay-le-Duc is as good a spot as any for a sightsee; the town’s Tour de la Motte Forte is the major attraction, up which visitors can climb to look out over the red tiled roofs and smashing bucolic scenes beyond. Other historic spots nearby include Chateauneuf-en-Auxois, 15 kilometres away, and Autun, a little further afield at 25 kilometres, while Dijon is just under an hour’s drive away.
Pouilly-en-Auxois, 17 kilometres from base, is where you can hop on a barge for cruises down the Burgundy Canal, stopping off as you go at wine and champagne houses to sample glasses of their finest. If you’re feeling generous, you might even buy several bottles to bring back to friends and fam back home – or just back to the site to quaff yourself.
Fishing, hiking and cycling are all popular pursuits around this area, along with (but of course) touring the Burgundy vineyards that surround the site’s local settlement of Arnay-le-Duc – especially those around the Côte des Nuits area, say the site owners... And as one might expect anywhere in France, local cuisine is a star attraction for both natives and visitors, so sampling local truffles and goats’ cheeses must be made your dying duty.
