- Quiet adults-only site 20 minutes’ drive from the Atlantic Coast
- In a forest, 15 minutes’ drive from two lakes and a golf course
- Shared eating area, dedicated kitchen space and freezer on site
Halfway between Bordeaux and Biarritz, Camping Chez L'Habitant is your ticket to a Landes break jam-packed with sailing on lush blue lakes and soaking up the atmosphere of the Atlantic coast. Set in the dappled shade of a forest with centuries-old oaks and hazelnut trees, it is within 15 minutes’ drive of Mimizan Plage’s beaches, two lakes, a golf course and the Vélodyssée Atlantic cycling path.
Recharging your batteries should be nice and straightforward here, as the adults-only site does not permit children under the age of nine nor animals. The site is completely car-free too, so once you've arrived you'll leave your vehicles in the dedicated car park and set forth through the 24-hour gate accessed by a digital code.
Once you’ve settled in, check out the shared kitchen space where you're welcome to use your own kitchen kit to set about making tasty breakfasts, lunches and dinners. There’s a professional two-tank sink for washing your dishes and a 36-square-metre marquee with tables and chairs for important business like chatting to fellow guests over dinner.
Elsewhere, handy facilities include clothes lines, sockets for recharging mobile phones, a freezer for ice packs, and toilet facilities including two odourless dry toilets, one dry urinal and three hot-water showers.
It’s just a few minutes' walk to the village centre when you’re ready to switch into exploring mode. Here, there’s a cycle path heading into the forest and a sports centre, as well as shops and restaurants. The owner lives on site, so if you’ve got any pressing questions, they can provide you with tips or personalised services.

Local attractions
Some swimming or some wave catching, perhaps? Ocean seekers can get their fill in Mimizan Plage (15 minutes’ drive), where Atlantic-coast beaches are flanked with cafés and tourist shops. Shouldn't be too hard to source a good ice cream here…
Inland, there are more water-themed activities courtesy of a trio of local lakes. Lac d'Aureilhan (15 minutes) is a nice spot for canoeing or fishing (pike, pike perch, eel and carp being some popular catches). Further north is Lac de Biscarrosse et de Parentis (15 minutes), popular for sailing and cycling along the lakefront bike paths.
Lake Sanguinet (half an hour) is furthest away of the three lakes but it's just as stunning, with activity options including swimming, sailing and watersports. In the town, a lake museum tells the town’s story since Neolithic times.
Those who like a challenge can drive to Jungle Park (half an hour) for rounds of paintball or attempts at climbing the obstacle courses in the trees.
