- Family-run holiday complex around a 17th-century mill
- In a peaceful valley of the Périgord Pourpre
- Pool, paddling pool, restaurant, bar and orchard produce for sale
In a peaceful valley of the Périgord Pourpre... that sounds just serene enough in itself, non? But add in this spectacular site's lake and historic mill setting... and among the lush countryside of the Dordogne river and Bordeaux and Bergerac vineyards... and it's fairly possible you may be truanting here for as long as you can possibly get away with.
Moulin des Sandaux is a modern family-run holiday complex around a 17th-century mill, family run by a friendly team in the Gironde countryside a couple of minutes' drive from Saint-André-et-Appelles. All ages are sorted here, as the park is firmly family friendly with loads to do for all sizes of guests, and the friendly team is happy to advise on things to see and do in the surrounding area for your days off site.
Have long idle days here fishing lazily by the lake or taking frequent dips in the big outdoor pool (waterslide included if you're feeling energetic). Foodie times should be frequent too: the site's bar and restaurant dishes up holiday fare like pizzas, fries, ice cream and salad, as well as homemade produce from the Moulin des Sandaux orchard such as nut bread, nut cakes and plentiful sweet stuff.
The site also has a playground, table football and pétanque. Regular events such as kids' evenings, barbecues and sports sessions are held in summer.

Local attractions
Moulin des Sandaux is in a valley of Périgord Pourpre, between the vineyards of Bordeaux, Bergerac and the Dordogne, in a rich wine-producing region with many wine tours available. A trip along the Dordogne river is also a must-do in these parts: ask the Moulin des Sandaux team for their best waterside walks, or arrange a Dordogne canoe trip from Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt, just under 10 minutes' drive north of the site.
From local town Saint-André-et-Appelles, drive 10 minutes to the medieval bastide town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, close to the borders of the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne departments and a pretty place for a wander among its half-timbered houses and central square. Town sightseers should also like a look around Eynesse, 10 mimutes' drive to the east, and the pilgrim and bastide town of Pellegrue (15 minutes), a scenic stopover on the way to Saint-Ferme Abbey.
Another top option is Duras (20 minutes), famed for the medieval Château de Duras: guided tours, open houses and regular evening events run here throughout the holiday season.
