Pitch by the water

General

  • Wildlife haven and woodland park with fishing loch on site
  • Within easy driving distance of beaches and Cairngorms National Park
  • Reception lounge, games room and playground

Angling for some Angus fishing? Pitch up at glorious Glenesk Caravan Park and cast off at its loch in the middle, stocked to the gills with mirror and common carp, tench and roach – then pack your rod for salmon and trout fishing on the nearby River North Esk.

Not angling for Angus fishing? Leave the fisherfolk to it and settle down to species spotting from the loch shore, wander around the unspoilt woodland of this wildlife haven park or tackle the (b)reams of hill hikes within walking distance.

Sandy beaches, city shopping, the Cairngorms National Park and the Scottish Whisky Trail are all within driving distance – once you’ve wrestled your other half from the rod, of course…

If the weather decides not to acknowledge that you’re on holiday, Glenesk has a reception lounge with telly and an indoor games room for you to lounge around/get competitive in; when it’s sunny, the well-equipped park playground will keep the kids occupied while you get on with the serious business of fishing/lying by the loch spotting red squirrels.

Park amenities include a heated toilet block, hot showers (a small charge applies for the use of the shower), covered dishwashing area and separate laundry room. The small tuck shop sells basic essentials and camping gas, and can arrange to have your morning papers and other bits and pieces delivered over the weekend.

Please note

A charge of £0.20 (€0.23) applies for the use of the shower.

The restaurant is open between 01/04 and 31/10.

The café is open from Wednesday to Sunday.

This is a honest park it does not try to be somthing its not, if you are looking for a park where the wardens run after you offering to wipe your nose and bum then i suggest you stay away, stick to your stupidly over priced parks,
No phone or tv signal so complete piece and quite total chill out great place to drop out the rat race for a day or two, great walks, nice little fishing pond on site (free), pick your pitch when you arrive some in the trees some in the clear close the play park,
very friendly and helpful staff, the bin area's were cleared everyday and the tiolet/shower block washed everyday while we were there.
5 minute drive to Edzel and its shops golf if that what you like, huge park there too,
drive up the Glen visit Loch Lee, Stunning,
there are too many positives to list just try it IF you can get booked

    Disliked:

Dislike is too strong a discription, what would be nice is for the showers and toilets to be updated maybe a second block for the other side of the park. but all in all great park

We had a brilliant stay in this lovely basic campsite amongst the trees. We got a great spot by the water, but you need to be early! The location was perfect for exploring the mountains, coastline and beautiful riverwalk nearby. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, it's a nice laid back vibe and they make tasty breakfasts! We will be back asap, we absolutely loved it!

Location was close to my family so convenient.
    Quiet woodland area.
Lots of water and bin areas.
TV reception is available for FREESAT devices if you park in a particular spot so check before you book for availability, and book your spot, in the correct area. You need a long lead to the black box at the electric point.

    Disliked:

No TV reception or internet reception, even their own WIFI did not work in their cafe with their password. Staff also tried and although working for the office, would not work on any of my devices. When I went off site everything worked.
Too isolated to go on your own.

Hard standing was covered in mud and weeds.

Local attractions

Several walks and hills are within easy walking distance; lace up your boots and walk forth, or ask the Glenesk Caravan Park for recommendations for walks, activities and attractions nearby and around the area.

Glenesk has hill walks for all abilities from the faint-hearted to the confidently striding and all sorts in between. The Hill of Rowan walk from the Tarfside car park should make a peaceful compromise as it’s a doable four and a half miles long, and easy to navigate given that the huge memorial of the top of the Hill of Rowan can be seen for miles around.

Make some time for a stroll to Edzell too, lined with 19th-century buildings and called the ‘jewel of the glens’ for its prettiness – in this part of Scotland, that’s quite a moniker... The start of the main street is marked by Dalhousie Arch: pass under here to browse shops, antique establishments, cafés, tearooms and restaurants.

Castles, historic houses and gardens abound in Angus and neighbouring Aberdeenshire, most open to the public from Easter onwards. Glamis Castle, setting of the Scottish play, has guided tours, exhibitions and an Italian garden, and the Queen’s pad Balmoral is an enviable look at the lives of the royals and part of the Aberdeenshire castle trail (of which there are a mighty 17).

Must see

  • Glamis Castle (19.8 miles)
  • Carnoustie (23.7 miles)
  • Balmoral Castle (25.0 miles)
