General

  • Family-run site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Steps away from the beach
  • Pool, sauna and summer restaurant/entertainment

Views, glorious views… the area surrounding St Audries Bay Holiday Club near Minehead is the setting for right Somerset sights. The park is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the Quantock Hills, it's close to the beach on the Somerset coast and has views across the Bristol Channel to Wales: bring your camera.

St Audries Bay has been family-owned and run since 1933 and has picked up a goodly handful of awards along the way, so it’s safe to assume they know what to lay on for guests of all ages whatever the weather: among the options on offer are tennis, boules, fishing, an adventure playground, a pool with sauna (a small extra charge applies for the sauna), and a games room with video games, snooker and pool tables.

Entertainment is laid on during July and August, and restaurant and bar meals, takeaways and tipples are available during these months in the Sundowner bar. Or head off site instead: once you’ve hiked the Quantock Hills, both Bridgwater and Taunton are on the M5 15 miles away and Exmoor National Park is nearby.

nice spacious site, good level pitches. Easy contact free check in by phone or email.

    Disliked:

worked out to be a very expensive stay given that none of the facilities, including toilet blocks, were open. We stayed on approx 7 other sites during our 2 week trip and this was the only one that hadn't reopened the toilet blocks, which i found odd for such a big park.
Could do with a couple more signs directing you to reception.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your comments. We are sad that we were unable to have all of our facilities open during your visit and assure you it was for the safety of our staff and guests. We hope to see you again.

  • Liked:

Good location with a short path to the beach. Flat pitch with plenty space.

    Disliked:

Hard to see how the site can justify charging the full (expensive) pitch fee when ALL the facilities (showers, toilets, shop, swimming pool, bar and even check in was by email) were closed. £30 a night for a very expensive parking space. Why did the site allow other users to have a large caravan and a large awning and the very large van towing the caravan to park on one pitch completely blocking our view? The approach road is very narrow and steep and would be a real problem if two caravans met head on. Motorhomes are squeezed into a small site with basic facilities for waste disposal etc - no drive over grey water drain. Also wifi was extra and per device - would have cost us nearly £50 for our stay to use our devices! Needless to say we used 4G.

From the manager...

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us at St Audries. We are very proud of our beautiful location and touring site and are sorry that it did not suit you. We have made it very clear that for the safety of our staff and guests many of our facilities are currently closed due to the pandemic.

Sea view, helpfulness of staff, clean tidy site, unfortunately no facilities open yet

    Disliked:

We personally found it a bit remote as we had a motor home and it’s more difficult to go off site, due to having an awning to have to put away and take back out, so with no shop, you have to be very organised. Also have to pay for WiFi

From the manager...

It's great that you enjoyed our location and we wish we could offer more facilities but for the safety of our staff and guests many of our facilities are currently closed due to the pandemic.

Local attractions

Pick up a safari tour at Dulverton or Dunster to see Exmoor’s wildlife in sit-down style, or take to your feet or wheels to explore the park’s walking and biking routes. Going there by night? Exmoor National Park is the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe: watch the stars at Haddon Hill or Wimbleball Lake, the first designated Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor.

The country park at Wimbleball is worth hanging around for a day or two too: it’s managed by the South West Lakes Trust and has an activity centre, trout fishery, bike route and nine-mile lake walk.

Minehead nine miles away from St Audries Bay has a couple of record breakers: it’s the starting point of Britain’s longest walking trail, the South West Coast Path, and it has the country’s longest standard-gauge heritage railway, West Somerset Railway, starting at its station and running just over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard.

Weston-super-Mare is also within easy driving distance and has miles of clean beaches, a refurbished pier, a SeaQuarium, more donkeys and Britain’s only helicopter museum: give it a whirl.

There are several other Somerset essentials to see within driving distance: cider farms at Taunton and Washford, two vineyards at Bridgwater, the Blackdown Hills to hike after the Quantocks, and famous Glastonbury and its abbey about 40 minutes’ drive away.

Must see

  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (18.2 miles)
  • Millennium Stadium (21.1 miles)
  • The Cardiff Story (opens April 1st 2011) (21.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Coleridge Cottage (5.2 miles)
  • Dunster Castle (7.6 miles)
