General

  • Peaceful family-run park in the middle of Exmoor with coastal views
  • A five-minute walk from Porlock and a 10-minute drive from Minehead
  • Wifi access and award-winning garden; dogs and barbecues allowed

Entertaining the idea of exploring Exmoor during your next escape? Adventure around this protected area covering a sizeable chunk of Somerset’s most stunning countryside and coast from the centrally located Porlock Caravan Park.

This sea-view site is a five-minute walk from the pubs, restaurants and shops of pretty Porlock village and close to public transport links landing visitors on the beach at Minehead (10 minutes’ drive). With the South West Coast Path around a mile away, the park is also a brilliant base for hols spent walking, cycling or riding across the scenic trails of Exmoor.

Perhaps inspired by the protected area the site sits in, its owners have shown how much they care about conserving local wildlife by creating an award-winning garden for guests to admire. They’ve also added a bat box, ladybird house, hedgehog box, beehives and a lapwing log to the serene grounds and have tarmacked the well-lit perimeter to keep the atmosphere peaceful for both humans and creatures.

Speaking of animals, a separate dog-exercise area is available for the pups to play in at this pet-friendly park, plus lots of trails are in the surrounds for them to snuffle along.

Lovely site, great walks and friendly village within walking distance09/06/2020

  • Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

We was in the South West for two weeks and visited three campsites. This one (Porlock) was bar far our favourite.

The pitch was a very good size and included electric hook up and water with a waste drain not too far away from the pitch for grey waste.

The site was peaceful and friendly and very tidy, it is very well looked after.

It was a refreshing change to have a good shower and one which did not switch off every 30 seconds like a lot of them do, the showers were a nice temperature too.

The Village is lovely and the local people were very friendly. A short walk from the site are three local pubs/restaurants, two grocery stores and a friendly butchers..

    Disliked:

The taps in the toilets didn't stay on long enough and only gave you a small drop of water, this was disappointed as you had to keep your hand on the tap, making it difficult to thoroughly was your hands. I did not manage to get any hot water from them.

Unable to establish a Wi-Fi option for the site, had to increase by mobile phone data to stay connected.

    Disliked:

When we arrived they had massively over booked, and had no room, and were turning people away. We had booked and paid deposits. But we were sent to campsite next door. Sparkshayes Farm. Which in the end turned out much better. Plenty of room, good facilities, & friendly owner. Lost deposits... which wernt returned.

Nice location, good ground, well drained, good accessibility for variety of trips and visits around Somerset and N.Devon.

    Disliked:

Could do with some additional facilities in shower block. Slightly irritating lack of observation of sites no noise after midnight policy (but that's not entirely on the site).

Local attractions

Exmoor is one of England’s most peaceful national parks and offers some of the UK’s best stargazing. Adding to these accolades, it’s also home to the nation’s tallest tree and highest cliffs, as well as one of its biggest herds of red deer.

Spend your days in the area in search of wild animals – you might be lucky enough to spot the famed Exmoor pony – or dawdle beneath the boughs of trees at Dunkery & Horner Wood National Nature Reserve (15 minutes’ drive). Walks on the coast are also possible as the South West Coast Path is a mile away.

While strolling by the seaside, stop off for rests at the beaches enroute: Bossington is a pebbly stretch well worth the 40-minute roam from the park, while Porlock Weir (half an hour’s stroll) gives access to the water from a working harbour edged by shops.

A larger selection of boutiques to browse is in Dunster (15 minutes), an Exmoor village towered over by a castle. Travellers will pass the turnoff to Minehead on their way here, where they can jump on the West Somerset Railway heritage train for rides with coastal views.

Must see

  • St Fagans: National History Museum (23.6 miles)
  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25.9 miles)
