General

  • Luxury Dorset resort set in secluded lakeside woodland
  • A 15-minute drive to the New Forest, 25 to Bournemouth and 35 to Poole
  • Hot tub, pool, poolside bar, barbecue area and pizza oven

Woods, a stream and a lake. Check. Forest rambles and beaches within half an hour’s drive. Check. Hot tub, sauna, swimming pool… is this place for real? Yup, it's Horton Camping and Glamping in Dorset. Whether you're looking to get away for a relaxing few days with your partner, or wanting to explore the fabulous Dorset countryside with your family, Horton Camping and Glamping Resort is a high-end pick in a top spot.

This most-scenic option has a mix of forest and open space set over seven acres for accommodation and activities, and everyone has access to the hot tub and swimming pool open in high season.

If swims and submerges stoke up your appetite, head to the barbecue area to cook over coals, grab something quick from the onsite café, or use your own gas cooker (provided with bell tents and safari tents for outside use only). The terrace bar is also available for refreshments to keep the family cool on a hot day.

This site is also an oasis for wildlife – keep a beady eye out for roe deer, foxes and rabbits flitting about in the surrounds. And if you’d like to do your own scampering, the resort is within 15 minutes' drive of the New Forest and 30 to 35 minutes from the seaside towns of Poole and Bournemouth.

Excellently kept amenities (the attention to detail really does reach every nook and cranny here) are also a highlight of this park, including washrooms and showers with toiletries provided.

Horton Camping and Glamping Resort is not a nudist site but has a sister park, Rivendell Outdoor Club, next door for folk who prefer naturist hols.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 10/04 and 29/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

The café is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Great clean facilities, the toilets and showers were the best I have seen in such a site. Personable service for the majority of the time, central location to many attractions. Large supermarket 10min away. Friendly atmosphere with a great hottub, pool and bar area.

    Disliked:

My only complaint was the fact the bar area stayed open until 12.30pm on evening. The loud music stayed on until 11.30pm with loud voices hanging about until the end. This area was staffed by the venues staff and the loudness would have affected the majority of the families staying. The sites rules clearly state no loud music and groups talking after 10pm, this contradiction and the fact that this kept my family awake I found really disappointing and a reason that I probably won't book again. Other then this I would have booked again for sure.

Fabulous setting, very clean and facilities were excellent - Also the Owners/Staff were very welcoming and on hand if required - Our pitch was level & ok and even though the torrential rain on arrival proved challenging my wife, 10 year old nephew and I settled in and enjoyed the outdoor life for 2 days..The location of site is central to all of the attractions and places of interest as well as local amenities , we will definitely be back for a longer stay..

Not much guidance on when people should be quiet at night. A couple of nights noise went into the early hours and was difficult to sleep.

The toilet block was hands down the best I have ever seen on an English campsite. It was kept immaculately clean.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The pool area, bar and hot tub were very well maintained and added a lovely touch to our stay. If we had been camping in our own tent, we would have given 5/5.

    Disliked:

We 'glamped' in one of the Bell Tents.
At around £100 a night, you would expect a bit of luxury, unfortunately it wasn't!
There were some nice touches such as an electric blanket on the bed which was comfortable with a good quality duvet.
The tent itself smelt really musty, I think it must have got wet inside and the carpet had soaked this water up. The girl that checked us in mentioned that she had been 'airing it for us'. The smell permeated all of our clothes and bedding and even came home with us! There was nowhere to sit outside the tent apart from some uncomfortable stools. A picnic bench would have been great outside the tent for us to use as the table (also grubby) had to be used for the cooker. The cooking/dining equipment hadn't been checked and we had to wash some of it ourselves before use.

I never reply to reviews, but I have to because I absolutely loved this experience.

As someone who has never camped, the thought of staying in a tent was quite frankly awful - but we were going with friends and COVID has cancelled all plans, so at this stage I thought why not.

I honestly cannot wait to go back. The staff were ridiculously friendly, the surrounding areas are beautiful. The accommodation was so clean (hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner). The facilities were great - pool, hot tub, BBQs to use, tables, bar, lockers, food, communal fridge etc. And for those of you not wanting to cook - Just Eat delivers.

The site itself is not too big either - Its really boutique and just lovely. Honestly wish I had booked for even longer!

    Disliked:

The only thing I disliked is the fact you cannot drive your car to your pitch up spot, you have to carry your stuff. This being said there are trolleys to help and it is not too far.

Local attractions

Just over half an hour's drive away, Poole has plenty to offer day-trippers with its sandy beaches, handsome old town and harbour area; it's also the departure point for boat trips out to Brownsea Island, a wooded sanctuary teeming with wildlife. If this gives you a taste for seafaring, take a cruise along the Jurassic Coast (or even a ferry to Jersey).

Those after bigger thrills in the water should aim for Splashdown waterpark (30 minutes), which has pools and over a dozen indoor and outdoor flumes and rides. There's more of that inland at Dorset Waterpark near Corfe Castle (45 minutes), and who could go near Corfe without going round the very fine old castle too?

For more ancient history, the isle of Purbeck (an hour) is fab for fossil hunters and the famed monument of Stonehenge is 45 minutes from the site.

For petrolheads, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu (45 minutes) has a collection of classic vehicles to gaze on enviously before you get back in your own. This is fine road trip country as well, with attractive old market towns like Wimborne Minster and stately homes such as Kingston Lacy within 20 minutes of Rivendell.

Must see

  • Kingston Lacy House and Gardens (5.7 miles)
  • Adventure Wonderland (7.0 miles)
  • Breamore House (9.8 miles)
