General

  • Family-run site set in a 20-acre field on an organic beef farm
  • Within easy reach of Lulworth Cove, Ringstead beach and Durdle Door
  • Pick your own pitch on arrival

Free spirits, feel constrained no more: you’re able to pick your own pitch at relaxed family-run Galton Campsite. Cluster with friends and family or retreat to a secluded corner of the spacious 20-acre Dorset site – it’s all up to you.

The site is on an organic farm with beef cattle, who graze on the grass pastures all around. Although it's a rural and peaceful spot, it's well placed for getting out and about for seaside and urban adventures: the Owermoigne location is a few minutes’ drive from the Jurassic Coast, with Osmington, Lulworth Cove and the famed Durdle Door all within a 15-minute drive.

Amenities include showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Campfires and barbecues are welcome and there’s a handy farm shop a few minutes’ trot away for supplies. Cross the road to the garden centre for restaurant eats, seek out one of the country pubs within a five-minute drive or find more options 15 minutes’ drive away in Dorchester or Weymouth.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Perfect location, clean facilities and friendly helpful staff10/05/2020

We really liked that we could pitch where we wanted to on Galton’s very spacious campsite. A message was sent on the morning of our arrival directing us easily to the campsite and instructing us on how to check-in contactless. Staff would come and say hi every evening at a safe distance. A relaxed, stress free site, which is well organised and offers very clean facilities and warm showers. A notice board kept us informed of weather updates, suggestions on beaches and pubs in the local area. Staff were very responsive on text message with any questions we had and were available on hand throughout the day. We also loved the sunflowers! The campsite is very well located to visit a lot of Dorset’s attractions, we will certainly be returning next year!

We loved the huge size of the field and the fact we could pick our own pitch. There was so much space. The contactless checkin was easy to use and the staff friendly at a distance. The facilities were very clean with plenty of toilets and showers with lovely warm water. There were freezers for ice blocks and sinks for washing up.
The location is ideal for visiting the Jurassic coast and Dorset’s other beautiful attractions. We will be returning to this great campsite.

Sunsets and Sunflowers! Open pitching, in a huge and beautifully flat field, ideally close to local attractions such as Monkey world, and Lulworth. The staff were great, helpful with directions and local info. The facilities were good and well maintained, which was a concern this year! Campfires a bonus. Their delightful sunflowers added a touch of sunshine, even on a gloomy day.

Toilets - not too bad but perhaps a more regular inspection would help to keep them cleaner.

The people running it were lovely, good communication. The field was huge so plenty of room to have your own space. Beautiful sunflower field at the back. Plenty of toilets/showers and sink spaces and all kept very clean. Even had a freezer to put cool packs in, which was a rare find!

The big sized pitches and not having to pay extra for add ons like other money grabbing sites. Plenty of toliets and cleaning facilities which were kept clean and sanitised. Great views in the morning and a very picturesque setting. Not far from local shops and things to do just up the road in Dorchester

Local attractions

The main draw around here is of course the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – and what a stretch of shoreline it is too. Take a 10-minute drive to Osmington to poke around for ancient fossils, or head a little further east for the 15-minute drive to Lulworth for boat rides, kayaking and coasteering trips around the Durdle Door stone arch. There’s a fine stretch of sand here too if you’d rather settle in to admire it from afar.

Walkers can take in the finest sights by striking out on the South West Coast Path: there’s 96 miles of it in total but even short strolls will reward you with fine views. Meanwhile, if it’s a classic seaside day out you seek, it’s worth taking the 20-minute drive to the sandy beaches and traditional amusements at Weymouth.

And aside from the coast? Well, there’s much more to entice you into a day trip: Mill House Cider Museum (five minutes’ drive), Monkey World (10 minutes), the Tank Museum (10 minutes), the Sea Life animal park, ancient Corfe Castle (20 minutes) and Abbotsbury Swannery (35 minutes) are just a few of your options…

Must see

  • The Tank Museum (3.9 miles)
  • Lulworth Heritage Centre (4.4 miles)
  • Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (5.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Clouds Hill (4.6 miles)
  • Hardy's Cottage (5.4 miles)
