Excellent facilities, felt very safe despite Covid as everything was in line with the safety guidance. Loved the activities for the children, my daughter especially enjoyed her first quad biking experience. It was great that the restaurant was open and the staff were very helpful. Nothing to fault really.

Relaxed and the facilities on site were excellent. Showers and toilets were great, hot and spacious. Washing up facilities were good and the on site bistro for food and something to drink was extremely useful.
Reception staff were very friendly and walked me to my options of pitch and flexed the pitch size due to the size of our tent.
Outdoors activities on site looked great for kids. We were an adult group so did not book anything.
Great play and adventure facilities for children so we will definitely revisit with the kids.
Horses on site were very friendly and a nice touch again for children.
The Fishers Pond pub was a short drive away and the food was good. We could easily book a short cab back to the camp site.
COVID measures on site were good as well.
I would thoroughly recommend this campsite and will definitely be rebooking for out next camp trip.

The fire pits are not easily available which isn’t advised at the time of booking - had to go out and buy bbqs to cook on which wasn’t a good start, they should either ensure they have enough for every pitch per night or atleast advise of this situation before you come as it wasn’t mentioned to us so having to leave the campsite to go and buy one wasn’t ideal!!!

From the manager...

Good afternoon Laura H. Thank you for taking the time to write your review. When allocating fire pits, as with all of our facilities here at Marwell we operate on a first come first serve basis as we find this the only fair way to do things. With over 70 pitches on site it would cost a great deal to buy enough fire pits for every pitch and knowing that only around 60% of pitches use them that is money we simply don't have in these difficult times, as im sure you can appreciate. Our experience this year has been that people relying on our fire pit to cook generally ring in advance to check that they would get one, at which point we would notify them of our first come first serve policy. I can only apologise that you missed out this time!

I am very dissappointed to see your rating of 2/5 for our customer service as this is something we usually excel at. I only wish you had given more detail as to why you rated us so low so we could have looked at the problem and learnt for the future. Also sad to see you wont be visiting again but very glad to see you would recommend to friends, even though this confuses me. All the best.

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest.

The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes).

The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
