If you’re pining for a stylish getaway surrounded by the gorgeous coast and countryside of Sussex, look no further than Hadlow Hideaways. This smart East Sussex glamping site is in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 10 minutes’ drive from Uckfield and a half-hour drive from the south coast.
There’s plenty of space to make yourself at home in the fully-furnished bell tent, which is kitted out with a kingsize bed for comfy sleeps, a woodburning stove, tea and coffee supplies for your morning caffeine fix, and games to play on cosy evenings in. Outside you’re in for a real treat, courtesy of the woodfired hot tub, and there’s plenty of space for barbecues when alfresco dining calls. A private shower and compost toilet are provided too.
Resident on site all year round is a collection of small farm animals, including friendly pigs and a flock of chickens; you’re welcome to get in among them to forage for eggs for breakfast. For meals and drinks later in the day, there’s a country pub 25 minutes’ amble down the lane with great food and local ales.
For walks beyond the pub there are many trails in the surrounds of the High Weald, and more around 15 minutes’ drive away in the South Downs National Park. Just think, that tub is waiting back at base to sooth any aches and pains after a day well spent exploring… bliss.

Local attractions
The market town of Lewes (a 20-minute drive) is brimming with historical buildings, including the 16th-century Monk's House, Anne of Cleves Tudor House, the medieval Lewes Castle and Barbican House Museum, which houses an archaeological collection.
For some animal encounters, you can walk llamas at The Llama Park (20 minutes) or meet a whole host of animals at Drusillas Park (25 minutes), where there’s also soft play, water play and mazes for energetic kids. For something a bit more relaxed, be on the lookout for wildlife, such as butterflies, buzzards and skylarks, while you stroll around Sheffield Park and Garden (25 minutes).
With the Bluebell Railway (25 minutes), you can explore the Sussex countryside on a steam train, or, if it’s the Sussex coast you’re after, Pevensey Bay beach is half an hour away.
Sticking to the seaside, Brighton (40 minutes) has something for everyone. If you don’t mind getting wet then have a go at some watersports, or stay dry on the pier and opt for arcades, rides and eats instead. You could also mooch around the shops, visit the Sea Life aquarium, or have a good nose around your surroundings on the British Airways i360 observation tower to make a day of it.
