General

  • Spacious off-grid touring pitches on a small organic farm
  • A 10-minute stroll from Debenham village for pub, cafés and shops
  • Direct access to footpaths and National Cycle Route 40

Camp Green is a spacious and peaceful five-acre site on a small family-run organic farm in the gorgeous Suffolk countryside, 20 minutes’ drive from Stowmarket. Self-contained tourers of all sorts are welcomed to spacious back to basics pitches that are off grid and just the ticket for a bit of respite from modern life.

Getting out to see some of your surroundings is simple here: there’s direct access to a public footpath that links up to lots more paths, bridleways and circular walking routes (plenty of choice for dog walking and trail running, say the owners). The peaceful rural roads are also popular with cyclists, and the National Cycle Route No.40 passes just a few metres from the site’s front gate.

A shorter walk of 10 minutes or so gets you into the nearest village, Debenham, a traditional little place that even gets a mention in the Domesday Book of 1086. It’s very much worth taking a wander around the timber-framed houses and pretty church, but this is also a thriving community hub that’s got an award-winning butcher, a well-stocked supermarket, a brewery shop and a deli to make sourcing picnic/barbecue supplies straightforward.

If you don’t fancy cooking, the village also has a couple of cafés for home baking and fab breakfasts, a handful of top-notch takeaways and a pub that does good grub (best to book ahead though to ensure a table). And if you’ve overdone it on the eating front, you can always swing by the leisure centre for a gym session or game of squash…

Lovely location with a short walk to lovely village of Debenham, where there's a pub and a chip shop, supermarket, newsagent. The site is just a huge field and part of a big farm, which the very pleasant owner is improving all the time as this is a new business venture.. We just needed an overnight stop and this was perfect.. Very peaceful but even got good phone reception!

Relaxed, spacious and simple site. Minimal facilities, but also minimal fuss. No need to book in or checkout. Just turn up, pick a spot and leave when you like. We had some awful high winds and rain during our two night stay, but were luckily very well sheltered by the large hedge around the site (A small wind turbine nearby proved very useful to judge wind direction!).

There are loads of footpaths around the edge of the surrounding fields, which allow relaxed walks without the need to walk along country lanes (Especially good for young children are in tow!). It also meant that there are a number of options to walk into the nearby village of Debenham. The footpaths are accessed via a path leading up the side of the site to the top of the hill. Pick your direction from there.

The nearby village is lovely and has a few shops to browse. The pub doesn't do food on the weekends which is a shame, but the Woolpack is still worth a visit for a cold post stroll pint. There is also a Microbrewery in the village (The Earl Soham Brewery) but we didn't get a chance to partake.

Oh and should you need to use your mobile, full signal available in this valley.

    Disliked:

If I had to find something, obvious signs of being a recent sheep field, but otherwise no problems. Other campers were pretty quiet and turned their music off at 10pm, so no complaints there.

From the manager...

Hi Chris and family

Thank you for coming to stay at Camp Green, and thank you for your comprehensive and very interesting review!
You gave a real insight of what our site is all about, and of interesting things to see and do locally.
Sorry about the sheep 'poo' but they were the inhabitants of the field until 3 days before we opened
Also thanks for the great photos you added to the site

Martin and his site was the perfect host, communication was excellent and the site was just the quiet retreat we were looking for. Back to basics site with all the charm you could ask for and basic amenities too. Great walking in the surrounding area and close enough to coast for day trip. Hoping to be back again in the near future!

Clean, no frills site with plenty of room to be well spaced. We like sites with no allocated bays for this reason. No arrival fuss. We just turned up at our booking time and chose our spot and didn't see the owner. Payment on Pitchup is in full which I like as you don't have to try and locate the owner before you leave to pay. Lovely field surrounded with trees which was pleasantly not manicured and had lots of wildlife. Very peaceful and not near a busy road. Basics provided only which suits us. The site is not lit up which means you get a peaceful night's sleep. Field is slightly undulating but this adds to it's charm! Short walks nearby. The village is pretty. We used the Indian takeaway nearby - was good but a long wait at pick up time
