  • Farm site half an hour’s drive from the Norfolk Broads and coast
  • Just outside Sprowston, 15 minutes from Norwich by car
  • Farm shop, wifi, coffee shop, beautician and dance studio
Travellers bound for the wide open spaces of East Anglia should home in on Plum Camping, a five-acre farm site 15 minutes' drive from Norwich that's surrounded by pick-your-own fruit orchards and 250 acres’ worth of fields and woodland. Settle in here among the plum and apple trees for a real rural feel and a handy location on the edge of the quiet town of Sprowston. Looking to make regular trips into Norwich? This spot is a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can board regular services and be dropped right in the middle of town. Amenities on site include a farm shop, a butchery, a coffee shop, a fenced picnic area, a beautician’s and a dance studio, plus a communal kitchen and a washing-up area. Access to fridges and freezers can also generally be sorted on request, as can electric sockets for your crew's assorted gadgetry. The Norfolk coast is a top pick for walkers and is home to paths with some truly excellent views, such as the scenic trail from Cromer to Overstrand (40 minutes' drive). Inland, the Norfolk Broads’ north-eastern corner is particularly peaceful as most of the boats that cruise these waterways can't squeeze under low-lying Potter Heigham’s bridge (30 minutes). All in all, you won't find wetlands, wildlife and cosy village pubs hard to come by around here.

Liked: Brilliant site, quiet despite being very busy the first night, nice toilets/shower block and use of a fridge. Close to a Tesco/lidl and petrol station The fire pits were a nice addition and great for a bbq. Couldn't really fault anything!

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: Love this camping site, and will visit it several times a year. When we first visited it was just the basics and it was lovely, mostly camping with a touch of glamping. Over the years they have added more showers and toilets, and constantly improved on that. They listen to feedback and answer emails, lovely people, cannot fault them or the site. Camping ground for people of all ages, and people who come are very considerate and don't make noise past 10. You really need to visit and experience it for yourself, my feedback won't do it the justice it deserves.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The solitude. We were the only people camping on the one night we stayed. We liked that there was a fridge available to store food in ( particularly useful as carrying fresh food on a bike packing tour is almost impossible) There were plug sockets available in a covered communal area to charge phones, bike computer etc but nowhere safe to lock them whilst doing this( although not an issue for us as we had the site to ourselves) Plenty of clean showers toilets etc although a couple of toilets had no wash hand basin in them so could be a hygiene risk.

Disliked: The cost was really quite high£36, for a small 2 man tent with 2 people in it. We paid £6.50 for a large box of wood to bbq tea but found we didn’t need it all so the option to purchase a smaller amount would have been helpful for those people who may not be staying on multiple night. The farm shop on site was very expensive so we decided to cycle to the Lidl store less than a mile away to get food

Liked: A beautiful well laid out campsite within orchards and long grass. Ample clean and working facilities. Lots of space for the children to play and explore. The site is easy to reach and while close to the city and supermarkets it feels that it is deep in the countryside.

Local attractions

Pitch up, stroll next door to Sprowston Manor Hotel, Golf and Country Club (a few minutes’ walk) and you're set for a day of pleasant putting on a well-kept 18-hole course. For some classy spectator sports, meanwhile, you might like to amble in the direction of Castle Carvery Racecourse (15 minutes' walk) and watch jockeys and horses vying for that all-important first place. Norwich (15 minutes' drive or about half an hour on public transport) is a regional hub of food, culture and ornate architecture, with the undisputed highlight of that final category being the city's well-preserved Norman cathedral. Families with active younger members may appreciate such proximity to town too, as it means easy access to kid-pleasing attractions like bowling alleys, a snowsports centre and Whitlingham Country Park (all within 20 minutes), where there's bucketloads of space for frisbee, ball games and the like. Heading to the seaside is another obvious option: Sea Palling beach (30 minutes) and Waxham beach (35 minutes) are both sandy and have a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, while Blakeney National Nature Reserve (50 minutes) has wilder stretches of shoreline and seal colonies to scout out.
