  • Within a few minutes' walk of RSPB Snettisham and a watersports centre
  • Three miles from the shops, pubs and restaurants of Snettisham village
Spectacular sunsets, deer safaris and splendid stargazing... round up the lot at the peaceful holiday park of Shepherds Port Corner in north Norfolk. An easy few minutes' amble from Snettisham beach (scene of the sunset in the pics above), Shepherd's Port is in a wildlife and stargazing haven within easy reach of several lakes for days of outdoor adventuring and/or gentle waterside wanders. Canoeing, paddleboarding and kitesurfing are all available close by, or you could let someone else show you the ropes with a sailing course at Snettisham Sailing Club half a mile away. RSPB Snettisham is also within simple strolling distance and Snettisham Park (scene of the deer safaris) is 10 minutes' from the site. Previous guests have hailed many fab aspects of this fab little park: its friendly helpful team, its closeness to the beach, its peaceful vibe... and you may be chuffed to hear that there's a highly rated fish and chip shop within walking distance too – and a pub on site with occasional entertainment. Accommodation at Shepherd's Port is in static caravans, each with their own kitchens, cooking kit and barbecues. Shops, cafés and more fish and chips are at Snettisham under 10 minutes' drive away; Hunstanton is 15 minutes from the site.

Railway 3 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: Easy check-in. Private space as the opposite caravan hadn't been booked. Plenty of space for 4 adults.

Disliked: Kitchen wasn't great - oven and grill broken, one of the hobs broken, plus the frying pans were unusable. Shower didn't really heat up. Whole place was musty.

#68 2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: The area - lots of wildlife, very peaceful ( I went out of season, October-November) The caravan - very snug and warm. I only spent £7 in the electricity meter. The owners - very easy and helpful to communicate with.

Disliked: Although there are stone tracks in the driveway, it can get very muddy during wet weather - which we had! I'm sure it's fine in drier weather.

Railway 3 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: The location was amazing. 5 min walk from the beach. Great spot for swimming & sunset watching. 40 mins from Wells and Holkham park. Chalet was clean just dated. £1 meter for electric there were 6 of us mon- Fri having showers daily & we put in about £20. There’s a garden table & chairs in the shed & room to store bikes if you take them. WiFi & phone signal same as any coastal plot but the TV worked fine. The front of the chalet is the kitchen & lounge and you go through a door into the railway carriage bedrooms 1x twin in own room, 1x double in own room 1x double which you walk through to get to the other rooms. All have heaters for colder months.

Disliked: Beds as per previous reviews were really uncomfortable. We had asked for bedding but it comes with no linen so showed every stain … luckily we had taken sleeping bags! Site is well kept & private. If a bit of money was put in on bedding, mattresses and less dated sofas we’d go again.

Disliked: How difficult to find. Still not received info from owner. Had to call for directions on the site. The games left in wardrobe of twin room were not complete and very limiting. Internet/WiFi non existant

Railway 3 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: Lovely cosy hut. Particularly liked the old original railway carriage door feature connecting the sleeping and living sections. Had everything you needed for your stay but you do need to take your own bedding and towels. There is a meter for electric which takes £1 coins. We stayed Mon to Fri and only needed to add £10 but we didn’t watch TV so don’t know how much that would have used. Hut is in a privately owned section just shared with one other unit so nice and quiet. Great location for walks and short drives to beaches. Local pubs and shop close by too, about 5 min drive.

Disliked: The musty smell, which is to be expected of this type of accommodation, but it fades once you let the air in. The 2 single beds are uncomfortable but the doubles are fine.

Local attractions

The park's setting so close to the beach makes it a hit with active types as well as families, who come to fish, paddle and swim in the waters off the beach, take a canoe or other craft out from the shore, or find a sandy spot to stretch out on for the day. The beach is dog friendly. Take time too for at least a few hours at RSPB Snettisham, famed in these parts as a birdwatching haven as well as one of the very few beaches in Norfolk facing west. Thousands of wading and migratory birds can be seen here in autumn and winter, but there's loads to see all year round: look out for peregrine falcons overhead, and plovers, oystercatchers, curlews and geese on and around the water. Also west-facing, take a day at Hunstanston 15 minutes away for another beach as well as the SEA LIFE Sanctuary, and Holkham (40 minutes) for a spectacularly scenic stretch of sand (so much so it was used for the closing scenes in Shakespeare in Love). Sheringham and Cromer are just over an hour away. For a spot of history – and possibly quite a bit of envy – the royal residence at Sandringham Estate is within 15 minutes' drive.
