Laurel Park Campsite: Many of the pitches over look the mini donkey enclosure and paddocks

General

  • Quiet and sheltered site surrounded by walking and cycling trails
  • By National Cycle Network Route 1
  • Communal lounge with piano, sofas, pool table and TV/DVD player

A warm welcome is very much assured at Laurel Park Campsite in south Lincolnshire, a lovely little site that's secluded and sheltered on a quiet country lane and surrounded by miles of walking and cycling trails including the National Cycle Network Route 1.

It's also south of the Wash Nature Reserve, a wildlife haven with miles of coastal walks and many available boat trips to see seals and nesting birds. Settle down here for a highly quiet and unwinding stay – seriously, this is a most serene site…

Facilities include a comfy communal lounge with sofas, TV and DVD player, a piano, pool table, games, Tassimo coffee machine and communal freezer, as well as a book and DVD lending library. The site shop is well stocked with food and camping essentials, gift and thrift items, frozen foods and ice creams.

Also on site is a small menagerie of animals for guests to meet: help feed, walk or pet the miniature donkeys, pygmy goats, chickens and rabbits, or help walk the donkeys and goats.

Amenities at Laurel Park include toilets and free electric showers, two chemical disposal points, a washing-up area with free hot water, laundry facilities, a mobile phone recharging point, Calor gas sales, ice pack freezing and recycling facilities.

Pick up supplies at the market town of Long Sutton two miles away, which has shops, pubs, banks, takeaways and a market on Fridays; more supplies and shops are in Spalding about 12 miles away.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Was a lovely quiet campsite. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The children loved the space to play and loved looking at the animals. It was a very relaxing site.

    Disliked:

It would of been nice if there had been a playground for the children to play on. The fire pits were quite expensive to hire.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback - it is much appreciated.
We did consider adding a playground, but they come with health and safety risks and space requirements that make them difficult to accommodate, so we decided against it. Also - the noise they can generate might also impact neighbouring pitches. We feel that the tree den and our animals are a big attraction for children, so better fulfil the needs of entertainment for kids whilst appeasing parents' safety concerns. We also have a communal lounge with a pool table, board games, books, etc. (which unfortunately wasn't permitted to be open when you were here, due to COVID), which is an added bonus for children that you won't get at most small campsites like ours.
With regards the fire pits, all guests are welcome to bring their own fire pits and wood. There is no obligation for you to hire ours. But at £10 per night, including all the wood you need for a good 2-4 hour fire, we feel this is very reasonable - especially when you take into account the cost and effort it takes for us to manage this service. Our wood, for example is cheaper than if you buy the same quantity from supermarkets or DIY stores.
Thanks again for your feedback - we very much value and take on-board all guests' opinions.

This was our second visit to this fabulous site. Andy and Emma are a lovely, friendly couple and the amount of thought they have put into what they do makes for a wonderfully relaxing stay. It's great to sit and watch the donkeys play and have a wander round to see the rest of the animals. The whole site is incredibly well looked after and clean and I would score a lot more than 5 if it were possible. We can't wait to return for our next break.

Andy, Emma and family were the most incredible hosts, making us all feel so welcome. This campsite is small, super friendly and has such a relaxed family-friendly vibe. The kids instantly made new friends and had the time of their lives. The pitches were really well sized so it never felt overcrowded. The facilities were spotlessly clean, spacious and well maintained, making showering with children an easy experience. We can't wait to come back!

Local attractions

The Wash has the biggest nature reserve in England, made up of sand and mud landscapes, salt marshes, waters and sandbank islands visible at low tide. It's probably best known for its seals and has the biggest single colony of common seals in Europe at Seal Island; visit in June or July to see the new pups.

Market town Spalding is a good day out, particularly at its Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre, as is a day among the medieval architecture and many museums of historic King's Lynn.

Wisbech, its brewery, gardens and maze is about 25 minutes' drive away, and Hunstanton and Skegness are less than an hour away.

Many visitors to this part of the country also go to the royal estate of Sandringham, Queen Liz's Norfolk pad, to see the house, museum, gardens and the parish church of St Mary Magdalene.
