  • Dog-friendly, adults-only site by a lake on the edge of Stoney Stanton
  • A 20-minute drive to Leicester and the Bosworth Battlefield site
  • Lakeside restaurant/bar on site; open-water swimming in summer
Looking for a Leicestershire site where you can indulge a love of watersports? Stanton Lakes, an adults-only place on the edge of Stoney Stanton, could be the place for you… One of the big attractions around here for adventurous types is the UK’s national diving centre at Stoney Cove – it’s within easy walking distance for those planning some scuba diving training. And if you’re not quite looking to get down that deep in the water? Open-water swimming is available twice a week at Stanton Lakes itself during the summer (you’ll need to book ahead for these sessions; please note no-one is allowed in the lake unless taking part in organised swimming sessions). There are no rules to say you have to be in the water to enjoy it, of course – you’re most welcome simply to take a stroll around the main lake and wildlife pond on site. Or how about soaking up the scenery while installed at a terrace table outside the lakeside bar with a coffee or something stronger in hand? The attached Peppervine restaurant is the place to be if you’re in need of feeding – it serves up a wide range of tasty tapas plates during the week and substantial Sunday roasts at the weekend (booking recommended). Facilities on site have been well thought out: the modern toilet and shower block is accessible and well lit, there’s a fresh water supply by the entrance and the chemical waste disposal point has been discreetly placed within the bins area. If you’re here at the weekend, keep an eye out for remote-controlled stock car racing events at the small track by the site – they run on certain Friday evenings and Sundays for a bit of high-speed local entertainment.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Views were one of the best for inland campsites. The lake filled with bird life and a base for supervised water activity clubs. Facilities are very good. Couldn't get booked into the restaurant but did enjoy a drink there.

Disliked: There were a couple of units who thought it OK to let their dogs run freely, and 'go' in the middle of the field. I sensed they were new to the caravan and camping scene, I hope they catch on and abide by the rules. I am a dog lover, but rules should be adhered to.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review we are glad you enjoyed your visit with us. I'm sorry there was a few guests who didn't follow the rules. Unfortunately this can sometimes happen. We hope to see you again soon.
