Pitch

General

  • Peaceful farm site with pitches in a well-maintained orchard
  • On the edge of the Malvern Hills, 30 minutes' drive from Gloucester
  • Dog-friendly site; five minutes' drive from the motorway network

Beat a retreat from your workaday cares at Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site, a well-maintained spot close to where the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire borders meet.

With spacious pitches, quiet orchard surrounds and easy access to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty all sorted, all that remains is for you to pack up your kit and drive over here – a task made splendidly straightforward by the fact that this site's a mere five-minute drive from the speedy M50.

Once you've pulled up at this rural spot, you could spend days cloud-gazing in the orchard, tramping through the Malvern Hills (perhaps with a dog or two in tow) or visiting cathedral cities like Gloucester (30 minutes' drive) and Worcester (35 minutes).

After jam-packed sightseeing jaunts (or days of nothing but sweet repose…), hungry stomachs can be satisfied with a barbecue on site or treated to chef-cooked grub at the nearest pub (40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive). Provisions for self-prepped meals can be picked up in nearby Ledbury (15 minutes).

As is expected when staying at a small-scale farm, here you can expect peace, quiet and splendid views, but you won't come back to base to find a chocolate on your pillow. Berrends Farm Caravan and Camp Site is relatively low on frills, but key facilities like composting toilets, showers and a washing-up area are all on hand.

There was 2 pigs that the children could feed. Toilets/shower were clean.
Left to own devices, which was nice.
The site was nice, Lovely to hear cows and nature, tricky to park with caravan and our van, as field was rather wet, as few trees, I’d say best site for tents and Motorhome.

    Disliked:

The fact you have to take own rubbish and also kinda tricky when it came to empty my wasted container, when it’s full,as heavy on my own to do. Could do with a lower hole to empty it.
Could do with bigger sign on entrance.

Small site over crowded on sunny weekend.09/15/2020

    Clean toilet block.

    Disliked:

Over crowded during stay - website said site was for 5 vans and 10 tents but we saw 9 vans and 7 tents at one stage. Road noise from nearby main road was ever present spoiling countryside vibe. Price of this site was very high for very basic facilities.

From the manager...

It was a busy weekend. some came in small camper vans but booked as tent pitches.

The main road possibly you are referring to is the M50 is circa 500 mtrs away. There are a lot of trees and hedges between site and the Motorway.

This is the first comment about road noise.

Re charges, many guests have commented how happy they have been with the charges.

Overcrowding during covid09/15/2020

Lovely farm setting. Host was very friendly and apologetic.

    Disliked:

Extremely overcrowded., even in if we weren't in the middle of covid conditions, the site was over subscribed. We arrived and was asked to park along the road due to lack of space. There were a couple of toilets and one shower. There must have been 20-25 different tents, caravans and motorhomes with family groups on a site of less than an acre. Tightly packed in. For safety reasons we packed up and found an alternative site.

From the manager...

It was a busy weekend. We do need to be more vigilant stopping people putting up additional add one tents not booked nor paid for.

We are continually reinvesting earning to enhance our clients experience.

Really loved the little farm with its pigs and horses. Very friendly owners who were very helpful. Great location. Enjoyed our trip a lot and would recommend.

    Disliked:

It was a bit overbooked and felt a bit like a car park, I would have happily paid a bit more for a bit more space.

From the manager...

Thanks for your kind words and your comments are noted.

Local attractions

Set out for a recce of the Malvern Hills (five minutes' drive) and it shouldn't take long to find a spot to stretch your legs. Hollybush car park (10 minutes) is a pretty good place to start – here there are two scenic circular trails that can also be walked as a figure of eight if you're feeling energetic.

It’s also half an hour to Symonds Yat for kayaking on the Wye, climbing and seeking out the peregrine falcons, goshawks and other raptors that breed on top of the rock. The Gloucester branch of the National Waterways Museum (30 minutes) is within a comfortable distance too if you'd prefer interactive exhibits and a narrowboat cruise.

You'll likely want to be outdoors as much as poss when in these parts, so earmark some time for visits to Eastnor (10 minutes) and Goodrich castles (25 minutes). Trips over the border into Wales should also be on your radar if you're tempted to explore the overgrown ruins of Grosnor Castle (45 minutes), the handsome market town of Abergavenny (50 minutes) or the Brecon Beacons National Park (from 45 minutes).

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (3.4 miles)
  • Tewkesbury Abbey (7.1 miles)
  • Malvern Hills (7.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Ashleworth Tithe Barn (5.8 miles)
  • Bredon Barn (9.0 miles)
