  • Well-equipped site on a working farm overlooking the Chiltern Hills
  • A 15-minute drive from Thame and 40 minutes from Oxford
  • Café-restaurant, butchery and farm shop with a deli counter
Wake up to see the sun rising over the Chiltern Hills while listening to the gentle murmur of sheep, pigs and deer during a stay at Orchard View Farm, a scenic Buckinghamshire spot within 15 minutes’ drive of Aylesbury, Thame and Princes Risborough. Not that guests will ever need to venture to the town for food if they don't fancy moving – eats and drinks are sorted courtesy of the site’s fantastically stocked farm shop and deli or by dining at the Trough Garden Kitchen. This café and restaurant serves up a range of meals, including those made from ingredients sourced at the site’s award-winning butchery and cooked in woodburning ovens. Looking after nature is just as important to the owners of this small farm as serving up tasty grub – they’ve worked hard to create a serene and scenic environment in the grounds by planting wildflower meadows, more than 100 trees and over 350 metres of mixed native hedging. Orchard View Farm is five minutes’ drive from the western edges of the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it's safe to suggest that the local area is also rather pretty for walks. Crime fiction fan? Or just fond of cute country cottages? Head off on a self-guided Midsomer Murders-themed tour of nearby villages (you can download a trail map from the internet). Oxford is 40 minutes’ drive from the site and central London takes an hour and 20 minutes to reach.

Liked: The on site shop had everything you could want. Got the best steak from the butcher I've ever had. Showers large with perfect temperature. All the staff were really helpful. Definitely coming back here again!

Disliked: I would have liked to have hook up but wasn't the end of the world. Besides that, I honestly couldn't think of anything.

Liked: Excellent toilet & shower facilities . I wanted to mention accuracy on the may for satnavs but realised 2 days ago that you have corrected it on Apple Maps, well done. I pitched my own tent.

Lawson's Lane non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: James! What a lovely chap. Fab site, clean and tidy. Felt super safe. Showers were lovely! We didn’t use the Wi-Fi as it’s not something we consider appropriate for us as a family when touring. I have rated 5 anyway as they shouldn’t be downgraded for my own lack of knowledge.

Disliked: The people in the next field and their “private event” the woman who was there to was super rude! The chemical toilet disposal liquid was coming up through the manhole and these things are much better non confined as it stops much of the smells. Would think that’ll be fixed asap though James clearly works very hard for the site.

Liked: Wonderful little camp site - facilities were clean and well equipped and the staff super helpful. The grass was short, flat and level, a pleasure to camp on. The restaurant and farm shop are excellent too.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Was disappointed the bar not opened till Fri , the cafe shut at 230 pm far to early especially as we arrived then to late for food and no where local to eat . Also the lady showed us briefly where our camping plot was but very hard to find as the numbers were on small rocks scatter everywhere , would have been nice to be shown when we arrived . Also when we put our rubbish in the refuse area the bins were full and all over the floor ,with flys all flying around unacceptable .The toilets were dirty and weren’t cleaned very often , only saw someone clean them once a day ,we won’t come back here again very disappointed

From the manager: Dear Anonymous reviewer, your review does really stand out with its 100% negativity. So lets deal with your points: Firstly we are a small site located in the countryside, however we do offer great facilities in terms of café, farm shop, butchery and on a Friday and Saturday there is evening food and a bar the times of which these are open is clearly stated in multiple locations online! During the week (Tuesday to Thursday) we close at 3pm and cannot stay open on the off chance that a camper may wish to purchase a few items after hours, we are a business. This said on many occasions I have opened the shop and served customers well after hours, they just asked nicely. All of us at Orchard View Farm are very approachable, if you had asked we would have done our best to oblige. Worth noting we are also not that far from local shops and takeaways, many of whom deliver. All of the information above is available on the App that you were invited to download to assist your stay, we have even negotiated discounts with our local pubs for you, again all on the app. The stones are indeed set into the ground but are laid out in a logical manner i.e. straight lines. Your most valid point is the over flowing bins for which I do apologise, our bin contractor was late to site. Currently we are switching bin contracts to a supplier who can offer multiple pickups a week so avoiding this situation during busy times. As soon as the contractor arrived the bin area was thoroughly cleaned by myself. The facilities are deep cleaned twice a day during the week (quiet times) but are tended throughout the day to ensure there are no problems. At no point are they dirty, however I appreciate this is subjective, other reviews state 'facilities were immaculate' see previous review. If I might comment on your review as a whole, it would appear more balanced if you had found something you liked, for instance the amazing views up the Chiltern Hills, the award winning cafe, proximity to road and rail links etc. I am sorry you did not like our site, we love it and run it accordingly Best wishes James, Family and OVF Team

Local attractions

Ease yourself into your escape slowly by setting off on walks through the Chiltern Hills (five minutes’ drive). This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a 324-square-mile chalk escarpment running from the River Thames in Oxfordshire to Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Highlights here include Wendover Woods, a Forestry Commission collection of trees with fitness and cycling trails, while four miles away (and 15 minutes’ drive from the park) is Aylesbury with its hodgepodge of Georgian, Jacobean and Tudor architecture. Browse the Bucks County Museum’s local history and culture exhibits, making sure to stop by the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery for displays championing the characters from the novelist’s books. Just outside the town, wander around Waddesdon Manor, a French-inspired chateau with gorgeous gardens, or turn back the clock to the 1940s at Bletchley Park (40 minutes), the country house where the Allies broke the enigma code during the Second World War. If city trips are what you fancy, set off for the compelling colleges of Oxford (35 minutes) or the spectacular sights of Central London (an hour and 20 minutes).
