Mixed experience: nice atmosphere, sanitary ok, too noisy, poor pool08/22/2023

Marina 3B is an odd sort of campsite. It's full of permanent pitches - basically caravans with whole ramshackle cabins and terraces built around them. The result is sort of like a holiday shanty town, but some of the cabins are undeniably beautiful and the middle-aged Italian Nonnos and Nonnas who inhabit them are cheerful and friendly, with a lovely camaraderie with each other on the site. You get the feeling that the place is a real community and people take great pride in their little plots, which is nice. There are lots of umbrella pines which provide plenty of shade and are very pretty.
Although you have to bring your own soap and toilet paper to the sanitary block, the showers are decent, with good water pressure and unlimited hot water, and carry no extra charge. The sanitary blocks are also kept very clean, and there are so many toilets and showers that you never have to wait for a free cubicle. The same is true of the dishwashing area.
The little market and boutique on-site are both nice, and the bar/restaurant area is lively and popular. Prices at both also seem to be ok and not the massive rip-off we've experienced at other campsites. Probably because the campsite serves mainly Italians rather than rich northern European tourists.
The location was also great for a trip to La Spezia to visit some of the Cinque Terre villages by train. We didn't visit the nearby beach but were told that if you go a bit further up from where the beach shuttle goes, you can see some really nice beaches that are great for snorkelling.
The reception ladies were also really nice and helpful, and we found the campsite very child-friendly.

    Disliked:

We arrived at 3 and were told we'd have to wait and hour to enter the site with our car at set up camp, because siesta is from 2-4pm, so this was a bit annoying. Furthermore, at all other campsites we were allocated a pitch but at Marina 3B you have to pick your own, meaning at 4pm there was a small deluge of people all rushing to claim a decent pitch at once, which was stressful.
The highway is right next to the campsite and most of the free pitches are there, meaning you hear the roar of trucks pretty much day & night, which marred our experience somewhat.
The pool has definitely seen better days and needs an update - it's very deep, so all the children crowd into the baby pool which then resembles human minestrone. No inflatables are allowed in the big pool either, which I couldn't really understand - it was consequently empty most of the time, because even the adults were out of their depth in it. The water also only reaches to about 40cm from the edge of the pool, meaning it's impossible to climb in and out anywhere but the metal ladders. My daughter injured her chin trying to climb out from the middle of the pool.
Also on the first night we were there (a Monday I think?) there was incredibly loud music being played by a DJ at the bar until just before midnight.

Close to the water. Friendly staff. Good washing, showering, toilet facilities - always clean and not too far to walk to. Short drive to train station to get to Pisa.

    Disliked:

No drinking water from the taps around the site - we bought bottled water in the end as weren’t sure where to get it from. WiFi didn’t work.
