Thank you for visiting, we are pleased you liked the site and the pub.

Whilst we do not have a reception or formal check in process it is more o9rganised than a "note on the gate". A comprehensive welcome letter is personally emailed to each guest by us prior to arrival, this instructs guests to enter the campsite and provide info on where to pitch and where facilities are located etc. We then come out to the campsite each day to check guests in. The reason for this is to streamline arrivals during busy times, if all guests had to park up and check in at the pub upon arrival it would be chaos during peak summer season.
Additionally, the welcome letter advises all camping guests wishing to dine at the pub for lunch or dinner to book in advance as we are very busy during the summer months.

Our listing on Pitch Up and our welcome letter also clearly state that we have a toilet block (with large butler sink for washing) but no showers. This is also reflected in our price. Our facilities are basic and we offer exactly as we state, no more and no less.

I am however somewhat perplexed by your comments!

Each guest is emailed a welcome letter explaining all you need to know for arrival meaning there is no need to check in at the pub on arrival, we do this as it makes arrivals a smooth process during busy times. We then come and check everyone in during the course of the evening. Arrival time is from 2pm until 9pm so in terms of “not being greeted by the owner on arrival”, would you propose I stand on the gate for seven hours each day waiting to meet and greet each camper that arrives?!?! I have a busy pub to run not just the campsite so not only would this be ridiculous but also not possible.

Furthermore, perhaps you are confused with who the owner is as I did meet you personally as you dined at the pub, I served you, and I checked you in whilst you were dining, I’d gone out to the campsite during the evening to check in arrivals that were not dining in the pub but it would be pointless me coming out again and disturbing guests to check them in if they’ve been in the pub all evening enjoying a meal / drinks.

I’d also like to add that you had not booked a table prior as suggested in our welcome letter, you messaged me quite late that afternoon to book a table and I kindly responded immediately offering you our last available slot for dinner at 8pm.

With regard to rubbish, this is clearly stated in our listing on Pitch Up, within our welcome letter and signposted around the campsite. It is made very clear that we do not offer rubbish disposal due to the high cost of commercial waste removal and so we choose to keep our pitch rates low making camping affordable for everyone rather than significantly increase them to cover rubbish disposal for guests. Is taking a bag of rubbish away with you really a big deal? We feel not and guests generally agree.

I would strongly suggest that any campsites you book in the future, read the listing carefully so that your expectations are managed as it appears you did not do so this time. We offer exactly as we state, basic camping in a rural location with a country pub on site offering food quality homemade food. We offer toilets (a lovely newly refurbished block of six toilets id like to add for anyone reading this), no showers and no rubbish removal. As we approach the end of the season I do struggle to understand how much clearer we could possibly make this or quite what people expect for £14 and £16 per night!

I hope you find somewhere with more facilities, a concierge service on arrival and cheap food for you to enjoy.
