- Tree-lined site close to the Cavagrande Oriented Nature Reserve
- Around a 30-metre walk to Gallina beach and a 10-minute drive to Avola
- E-bike hire, organised excursions, restaurants and beachside terrace
Spread out by the sea on a sunlounger in Sicily’s Syracuse province with a stint at Campeggio Paradiso del Mare, around 30 metres’ walk from the clear waters of Gallina beach.
This park close to the edge of the Cavagrande Oriented Nature Reserve also has a leafy green backdrop made up of pine, olive and eucalyptus trees for cooling down in the shade. For ventures off site, there’s access to trails leading towards a canyon made up of a series of natural swimming holes hewn out by the Cassibile river, or you may like to head off towards the splendid ruins of Syracuse (25 minutes by car).
Plenty of other pursuits are hereabouts too – query at the park about excursions to an almond-growing farm for nut tasting and cooking classes, as well as snorkelling sessions down Gallina beach and e-bike rental for surveying surrounds full of Mediterranean greenery. Boat tours around Ortigia (half an hour’s drive), birdwatching in the Vendicari (50 minutes) and night trips to Marzamemi (40 minutes) are also on offer.
Back on base, idle while accompanied by Italian grub – Sicilian slow food’s served at on-site restaurant Ciaru while the beach restaurant with views over the sands of Gallina specialises in fresh fish and seafood.
Settle in on the seafront terrace with a Sicilian wine, craft beer or cocktail as dusk draws in, leaving the kids at the playground with your other half or an on-site babysitter. A mini market’s also on hand for grabbing a beverage to drink in the comfort of the TV area.

Local attractions
As well as being in a traditionally Sicilian part of the island for soaking up the authentic local culture, this site’s strategically set for explores. If you’ve had your fill of Gallina’s golden shores, travel to Avola (10 minutes’ drive) for other beaches – like the Lido di Avola, Pantanello and Ferro di Cavallo – or seek out city sights at Noto (20 minutes), known for its baroque architecture.
Rove to the reconstructed Noto Cathedral, pop your head around the door of the gilded Hall of Mirrors in the Palazzo Ducezio and peer at the ornate balconies of the Palazzo Nicolaci.
Syracuse (25 minutes) has more splendid structures to gaze at, including the classical ruins in the Archaeological Park Neapolis (don’t miss the amphitheatre, Teatro Greco and the ear-shaped Orecchio di Dionisio cave). For extra context on the city’s history, mosey to The Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi to catch the clay artefacts and Roman-era portraits.
