- Wooded riverside site on the edge of Vercors Regional Natural Park
- Mountain biking, skiing, climbing, fishing and horse riding nearby
- On-site market selling regional produce, craft beers and local wines
Settle down at Camping La Condamine to take in smashing views out over the Jarette valley and the peaceful village of Lus la Croix Haute village... all set scenically among alpine pastures and scenic woodland 1,010 metres above sea level... and right on the banks of the Drôme river.
La Condamine's location on the border of the High Alps and the Vercors Massif among the spectacular Vercors Regional Natural Park means it's an outdoorsy place; there are over 160 kilometres of waymarked trails for hiking, and 250 kilometres of French Cycling Federation trails for mountain biking. It's a top spot for skiing too, with La Jarette's ski station 10 minutes' drive away.
Take a dip in the river running alongside the site if you'd rather be outdoorsy with minimal effort; bonus points if you do it in particularly leisurely style while the kids are occupied by the activities and games of the on-site play coordinator. Also at the family's disposal are badminton, bowls, books and board games, and evening entertainment of jazz, rock, blues and French folk music from visiting musicians and bands.
La Condamine’s eatery is open daily during high season for breakfast, luncheon picnics and dinner soirées, with a takeaway service too should you feel like dining alfresco. For self-catering supplies, there’s no need to move from the site, as the grocery store is mightily well kitted out with a bakery, a butcher/ charcuterie counter and – fably – a wine cellar and an on-site brewer producing top-notch tipples.

Local attractions
Camping La Condamine’s setting on the edge of the High Alps makes it a tiptop stop to use as a base for outdoorsy pursuits, from clambering up via ferrata climbing routes to hurtling down the 18 or so kilometres of skiing trails around the hamlet and ski station of La Jarjatte, six kilometres away.
Should you seek at any point a city-based day away from your countryside surrounds, Grenoble is just over an hour’s drive north. As well as touring its many museums of contemporary and classical art, something that you should most certainly squeeze into an itinerary here is a ride in one of its spherical 'bubble' cable cars, to float high above the city’s streets to the summit of La Bastille hill and its 18th-century fortress.
For a longer but much recommended scenic drive, the Route Napoléon covers the road from Grenoble to Cannes: just follow the statues of the French Imperial Eagle.
