General

  • Quiet and spacious site within a forest estate
  • A 25-minute drive from Disneyland and an hour from Reims and Paris
  • Fishing lake and trails on site; 10 minutes' drive from town

How does a forest estate with its own fishing lake grab you? That’s just for starters. Camping des Bondons also has its own network of trails for wooded walks and bike rides, and it’s a five-minute drive from the Marne river and the town of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, in the Île-de-France region.

Paris is an hour’s drive away or 40 minutes by train; in the other directions there are wooded hills and streams to explore… along with medieval towns, champagne vineyards and cheesemakers. Fromagerie Ganot and Abbaye Notre Dame de Jouarre are both within 10 minutes' drive.

Back at base, it’s all about basking in the big open spaces and soaking up the peace. The pitches are generously sized and spaced, surrounded by hedges for added seclusion, and whether you’re cooking up something on a campfire, waiting for a bite on the lake or walking the forest trails, you’ll feel a long way from the city and its crowds.

If you and the kids do want to make some friends and make some noise, there’s a playground for clambering about on and a pétanque court for those with a competitive edge.

The facilities needed modernising and the ground was hard and stoney making it difficult to put tent pegs in. The train station was a bigger walk away than the website suggests

The staff were very welcoming, helpful and polite, even praising my very poor French. We were offered a choice of pitch if the allocated pitch wasn't right for us. The facilities were perfect for our needs and the toilets, showers, and washing areas were kept really clean throughout our stay. We were close to the train station for a day trip to Paris and also enjoyed a day relaxing at the site and walking in the woods around the site. Loved listening to the owls calling at night. This is a great value camp site and we have already recommended it to other people we've met.

Excellent site in a lovely setting with friendly staff.09/01/2019

As a family we have loved our stay at this campsite. On arrival the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We chose our pitch and we set up. Every time we visited the office, the staff gave advice on our tourist visits and supplied all of the information that we could possibly need.
We really liked the setting of the campsite and how quiet it was. We loved listening to the owls at night! It is in a beautiful area and is local to the village. There is easy access to Paris and to Disneyland Paris.
I was worried about the amenities after seeing some of the reviews...….Ok, because of the reviews we took toilet roll and plenty of soap (definitely take your own!) so it was not a surprise that the toilets were basic. They are clean - just basic. There are plenty of showers (a few extra hooks in the showers would be lovely though), a large washing up area and a washing machine. We feel that the toilets were reflected in the price of the pitch and so we were happy.
I had also read that the pitches were full of sharp stones - yes we had a few but because I had been pre-warned we knew to scour the site before we pitched up. Again, we had no problems. The pitches are large and the electric hook up is excellent.
We will be coming back to this site. We would also recommend this site.

We liked the rural location of the site. The large hedged pitches were great. The shower/toilet block was clean but a little tired. But the owner Nicholas is working hard to improve this. Nicholas and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Easy to get to the local town and we found everything we needed there. Easy to get to Paris using the train around 40 minutes. Easy to get to Disney by car around 25 minutes.

Toilet / shower and washing up area's were dated.
Waste bins in toilet / shower and washing up area's were full to the brim and not emptied for the duration of our stay
The grass was overgrown on our pitch area.
Electric hook up point was a fair distance from our van so needed extra long extension lead.

Has potential08/23/2019

The wooded site had potential. Location is good for getting to Disney or Paris to see the sights.

    Disliked:

The toilet block is in a desperate need of updating and certainly needs to be cleaned more than once every two - three days. We arrived on a Sunday and left on Wednesday and the toilets were cleaned once. There's a lack of water filling points with the only one we found next to the chemical waste point. The pitch itself was lovely set back in a wooded area but I don't think I've ever bent as many pegs with the ground very rocky and also a very uneven pitch - seemed to be a common issue. The site has amazing potential but the grounds need much attention ie grass cutting, hedges trimmed, trees cut back etc. A lot more static vans on the site rather than a touring site.
In saying all that for a couple of nights stay in order to visit Disney it was fine and it was at a very affordable price. With updated and regularly cleaned toilet facilities this would be a very good site.

Local attractions

La Ferté-sous-Jouarre has a healthy helping of bars, eateries and supermarkets, but if you’re a full foodie fan then a trip to Fromagerie Ganot (10 minutes’ drive) is a must. Proud makers of brie since 1895, the folk at Ganot will show you round the farm and the cheese-ageing caves, and dish up samples of their famed product: stock up in their shop, buy some baguettes, then picnic on the banks of the nearby Marne.

Also 10 minutes away, ancient Abbaye Notre Dame de Jouarre was founded in around 650 AD by the Benedictines, and the nuns are still there, growing fruit and veg much as their ancestors did 1,300 years ago. The site combines the original building with additions from the 11th and 19th centuries, and has a decorated crypt where the bygone Abbesses rest: go see.

For more active stuff in the area, try horse trekking from the equestrian centre five minutes away, or meander over to Meaux (25 minutes) for kayak trips down the Marne. There’s waterskiing and windsurfing at the leisure base of Jablines-Annet (40 minutes), along with miniature golf and lazing on the lake beach.

Like Paris, Reims is an hour away, and unlike Paris, it's small enough to do in a day: take a wander round the 13th-century crypts where the Taittinger label stores some three million bottles of fizz, tour the 1,000 year-old basilica, and reflect on times more turbulent at the World War II-related Museum of Surrender.

It’s 25 minutes to the rides and attractions of Disneyland Paris and, an hour away in a fantasy world of its own, the museums, parks and monuments of Paris.
