General

  • Riverside site between Paris and Disneyland Paris
  • A 20-minute bus ride from Paris city centre: bus stop outside the site
  • Bar, bistro, spacious terrace, playground, gym and multilingual team

Fancy a romantic or family hol in splendid Paris – but come down with les vapours at the thought of Paris hotel prices? Give Camping Paris Est a go to save more euros for souvenirs and eats: it's only 20 minutes from the capital, and between it and heady days out among Mickey and co at Disneyland Paris 40 minutes away.

Set on the banks of the Marne river in the Paris outskirts, Paris Est is a family-friendly site (but of course), with a fair bit to do on days not sightseeing or rollercoastering: there's a bar and bistro with a spacious terrace, a gym at which to (attempt to) burn the lot off, and a playground where the kids can go loopy in between trips to see Mickey et al at Disneyland Paris. The grocery shop on site stocks fresh fruit, veg and a wide range of other foodie bits.

And if you're not sure where to start when exploring the very famed capital city of France? The multilingual and amiable site Camping Paris Est team can give you all the tips you need, as well as a hand booking activities of all sorts.

    Closeness to Paris

    Disliked:

The site felt like it used to be well run, but now isn’t or it’s focus has changed. The shower and toilet blocks appear to have been single sex at one stage, with one set with blue doors and the other a pink / purple doors. They are now mixed, but really don’t need to be as there are plenty of both. I am more used to and prefer single sex toilet and shower facilities, so I can not understand why this can be done here.
The shower block closest to us didn’t have hot water for most of the time we were staying. The showers in either block were very unpredictable with temperature, going from freezing cold to scalding hot instantly with no change to the controls.
Having said this, the facilities were clean and there was toilet paper - toilet seats would have been even better though.
I used the laundry facilities one day - this was quite an experience! I said to the staff on reception that I wanted to use the machines for some laundry and did they take coins - yes they replied. So I went to the 3 machines in a very grubby room - I was hoping the machines were cleaner than the room! 2 machines were being used, so I loaded up the empty one. I then discovered that I needed a token as coins were too large. There was no information regarding this in any language or how to use the machine. I went back to the reception to be told that it was €6 a load (including an Ariel tablet). I bought 1 token as I was told I would have to get 1 at a time - they didn’t have any more. So I went back to the machine, selected the program and put the token in. The machine display then changed to ‘out of order’. So, I went back to reception again and they called their handyman, asking me to go back to the machine to wait for him. Twenty minutes later, with no sign of the handyman, I went back to reception to ask again. The handyman was just leaving reception, so they called him and asked him to come over to the laundry. He found the same situation as I did, so needed to go back to reception to get another token. He then took washing out of one of the working machines and got me to use that one. I did eventually manage to get my 3 loads of washing done, but getting it sorted took hours! The staff did help, but were not forthcoming with information and were not too bothered about my issues. They could have made the whole process much easier, but chose not to.
The site is also located near a main road, although set lower down and behind trees. The noise of emergency vehicle sirens was almost constant day and night.
There were very few other holiday makers at the site as well. Most of the occupants were foreign workers living in the many static caravans on site. They were quiet, keeping to themselves, but obviously working shifts, with vans coming to pick them up and bring them back at times during the day and night. There was also a large concrete area where tour buses parked up for the day after dropping people off in Paris. All of this showed diversification that the management have been benefiting from, but as far as a place to stay whilst on holiday, it did change the feel of the environment.

Local attractions

Paris is a paltry 20 minutes away by public transport (a bus stops right outside the site) and is crammed with world-famed sights and attractions that'll likely have you booking to come again before you've even said au revoir.

Particularly recommended among the many by the Camping Paris Est team is the Louvre, the gallery housing the mega-famed Mona Lisa among its 35,000 or so objets d'art from prehistoric times to the present day.

Lounge around under the Pyramid on the Louvre Palace grass after a long trip around the exhibits and then wander along the museum's Right Bank location for a brasserie bite to eat or a coffee on a tiny terrace before a photographic peramble along the Champs-Élysées…

And then there's Île-de-France's other famed location… kids and big kids have Disneyland Paris 40 minutes away, for rides and thrills, Disneyland Village, and being snapped with the likes of Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear.
