  • Family-friendly site by the river in Romorantin-Lanthenay
  • Half an hour's drive from the Loire Valley châteaux
  • Covered swimming pool, bike hire and games room on site
A riverside retreat in rather lovely Romorantin-Lanthenay – that’s Camping Tournefeuille, a quiet family-friendly site on the banks of the Sauldre river in the pretty Loir-et-Cher town. This is a nifty location that’s both peaceful and also mighty convenient – the town’s many shops, restaurants and museums are a mere 10-minute trot away, and you’re well placed for outdoorsy times in the Sologne area (fishing, cycling and hikes are all popular activities in the surrounds) or trips over to the Loire Valley and its many (many, many) gorgeous châteaux. The river’s not really suited to swims, but cooling dips and splashes can be had at the site’s own swimming pool, which has a retractable cover to cope with whatever the weather has in store. A playground, free wifi and high-season bread delivery service are among the other facilities. Once you’ve picked up supplies at the town’s market (which handily runs three days a week), you’re welcome to cook on a barbecue here; they’ll even loan you one if you’ve not got space to bring your own. There are bikes for hire too if you’re going out exploring, and board games, a TV room and a games room if you’re more in the mood for flopping.

Local attractions

Take a 10-minute ramble up to the centre of Romorantin-Lanthenay to follow the town’s history trail around ancient bridges and mills, roam through riverside gardens and see the cracking classic car collection at the Matra Auto Museum. A château visit or few is a must when loafing around the Loire Valley, and Tournefeuille’s within easy reach of several of the area’s finest specimens, including lavish Château de Valençay (half an hour’s drive), classical Château de Cheverny (half an hour), huge 400-roomed Château de Chambord (40 minutes) and renaissance Château de Blois (45 minutes). If all the opulence has left you a little overwhelmed, take a nature break for canoe or kayak trips from Noyers-sur-Cher (half an hour away) or to visit the wild beasts at ZooParc de Beauval (40 minutes). When you’ve recovered a bit, there are more fine medieval and renaissance buildings to gawp at an hour away in Tours.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Well presented site with well maintained pitches and general areas.
Very well positioned for access to the pretty local town and great restaurants.

Clean toilets and showers.

Disliked: One minor point is that no one could seem to find the way out of the campsite and onto the river path, leading to several couples (us included) wandering around looking for a way out that didn't mean walking right around the whole site!

Dont like having no toilet seats!

From the manager: Thank you for your opinion. We are delighted that you liked our campsite. On each arrival, we inform our customers of the way to get to the town center of Romorantin by the path that runs along the river. We're surprised to hear you've been looking for it. In this situation, do not hesitate to come to the reception desk, we would have informed you. You didn't like that our toilets weren't equipped with toilet seats. We can understand it. But you also need to understand that cleaning the toilet is never fun. However, the hygiene of the "little corner" is fundamental for us. The most difficult to clean is the fixing hinge area. Difficult to access, they are the nest of bacterial development, and therefore odors. So not having one has made our work easier and above all more hygienic, if we can put it that way! We look forward to welcoming you again on a future visit. Best wishes. Céline & Philippe

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: We spent just a night here en route north and appreciated the friendliness of the man who showed us to our pitch. We enjoyed a couple of refreshing swims in the pool, the fresh pastries and baguette for breakfast, and the trees and rover views from our pitch. Facilities were good with helpful encouragements to everyone to keep them clean.

Disliked: We missed toilet seats!

From the manager: Thank you very much for your nice comment, it is a pleasure to read. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. For what you didn't like, we owe you an explanation. We do not provide toilet paper for hygiene reasons, and it is not uncommon to find whole rolls in the toilet bowl and to have to unclog them several times early in the morning or during the day. Which is really not pleasant for us. The incivility and lack of cleanliness of some campers are our daily life and make our work more difficult. If you return to our region, we hope to welcome you again. Best wishes. Celine & Philippe

From the manager: Thank you very much, we are delighted to read your comment. You enjoyed our rental (chalet) and the swimming pool, we are very happy. The Matra museum and the Sologne museum, in the city center, are indeed very beautiful museums. Many customers stop at our campsite to visit them. These are the essentials of Romorantin! And you're right, they are worth seeing. Looking forward to welcoming you again if you return to our region! We wish you a good continuation. Céline & Philippe

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: We only stayed for a stop over night on our way back up from the South but it was a really nice well kept site.

The owner was really friendly on arrival and explained everything in detail to us.

The toilet/shower block was clean as was the pool area.

Pitch sizes were level, great and we had plenty of space for our motorhome and the kids pop up tent.

We didn't get chance to see the local area but would definitely stay again.

Disliked: Very minor point but would have been nice to have toilet roll in the toilet block!
