General
- Small, peaceful site on a rural Pembrokeshire smallholding
- Within a half-hour drive of beaches and Oakwood Theme Park
- Barbecues and campfires welcome; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Looking for peace and quiet without straying too far from adventure-packed days out? The family-run Maengwyn Hir Campsite is a peaceful site on a smallholding in Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire, but its rural setting doesn’t leave you short of things to do – a stay here will put you within half an hour's drive of beaches, a theme park and animal centres.
If that sounds a tad action-packed for a laidback break, relaxed days closer to base are equally achievable. With spectacular views of the Preseli Mountains, the site has an abundance of footpaths, trails and cycle paths nearby to mooch about and admire the area's fine looks. If you’re feeling more ambitious on your travels, it’s just off National Route 47 of the National Cycle Network, which starts at Newport and finishes at Fishguard, ticking off the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Carmarthen, Llanelli and Swansea along the way.
It’s not too much of a chore to refuel after a busy day – the surrounding towns and villages host a selection of food and drink places for eating in or picking up takeaways, and there’s a pub less than 10 minutes’ walk away with real ales and food on request. If even that seems too far (perhaps if legs are a touch wobbly after getting carried away on Route 47), stick around on site and stoke up a campfire or barbecue.
