  • Family-friendly wooden cabin with Loughor Estuary views in Glamorgan
  • WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre 15 minutes’ drive; Rhossili Bay 40 minutes
  • Well-equipped kitchen and TV; private indoor pool, barbecue and garden
Fine views over the Loughor Estuary, a private barbecue and your own exclusive-use indoor swimming pool are just some of the USPs that make relaxed family holidays go with a swing at Estuary View Cabin. Tucked into a quiet corner in the village of Pen-clawdd in Glamorgan, this smartly designed wooden cabin has a stylish open-plan living space with a cosy sofa and vast flatscreen TV for family downtime, plus an immaculate modern kitchen with built-in fittings, cooker, hob and dining space. With two bedrooms (one has a double, the other has bunks, and they both have plenty of storage and hanging space for clothes) and a sofa bed, the cabin can sleep up to six guests. A gleaming, tiled shower room completes the accommodation side of things. Outside, the private garden is fenced – handy if you’re bringing your dogs. A barbecue is provided for outdoor feasts on warmer nights and there’s a cute wooden hut in the garden for sitting out on chillier evenings and admiring the estuary views. The pool is open between 10am and 6pm daily, but if you’d care for a dip in the sea, Estuary View Cabin is right on the edge of the Gower National Landscape and a short hop from spectacular sandy beaches like Three Cliffs (20 minutes’ drive) and Rhossili (40 minutes) bays.

Local attractions

If you fancy a coastal walk combined with the chance to observe flamingos, mandarin ducks and kingfishers in the wild, the protected patchwork of pools and woodland at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre (15 minutes’ drive) is the spot for you – there’s also an adventure playground for younger kids. Continuing with the nature theme, there’s a sculpture park and woodland trails to discover at National Botanic Garden of Wales (35 minutes) as well as tropical plants in the Norman Foster-designed glasshouse. Chances are the coast will be high on your Gower activity list too; the wide sandy sweep at Rhossili Bay (40 minutes) is one of the most spectacular beaches in Wales; other contenders for that title include Oxwich Bay Beach and Three Cliffs Bay (both 20 minutes), which is especially good for rock pooling at the foot of the cliffs. More urban days out might include a trip to Swansea (half an hour) for a wander around the medieval castle’s parapets, a dip into the technology exhibits at The National Waterfront Museum or a look at the life of Wales’s most celebrated poet in the Dylan Thomas Centre.
