  • Half an hour from the coast for walks, beaches and activities
  • A few minutes' walk from family-friendly local pub

What draws you to west Wales for your hols? Beaches, perhaps? Leisurely days walking on quiet rural trails or active ones by the coast? Charging around the area’s many castles, maybe, or fab days out at the theme parks and other family-friendly attractions round these parts?

Settle in for a stay at Firecrest Valley Camping and Glamping and you can pick and choose whatever combo suits your style, for all the above options are within easy reach of this peaceful place in the Teifi Valley 10 minutes’ drive from Newcastle Emlyn. (Even better news: if days out have exhausted your energies, there’s a pub just a few minutes’ trot from the site for restorative pints and grub).

Life on site is pretty peaceful – there’s heaps of space here in which to relax, with some fab views and wildlife to spot (including the resident red kites). You’re welcome to light up a barbie, or hire one of the site’s firepits for a cosy alfresco evening. Canine pals are welcomed on site too, and can dash about at the designated dog walking area.

This is an eco-friendly site with eco toilets and eco-friendly products used exclusively across the site. The site is almost completely off-grid, with water supplied from the natural springs and solar power utilised where possible.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay in a bell tent with my family and can't wait to return next year.
We went as a family of 6, 4 adults and 2 young children ages 3 and 8 and we found the 6 person bell tent perfectly fine for us, it was well equipped and there was plenty of space for sleeping, chilling, playing and storing our bags inside. There is also plenty of space around the tent for playing games and for children to burn off some energy.
The reception tent is situated at the entrance and is manned for a couple hours in the morning and in the afternoon though the owner is very often walking around site and it's not hard to find someone should you need any help with anything, the owners are a lovely friendly family and can't do enough for you, Gavin even helped us set up our tarp shelter when we were failing miserably and helped us light our fire on the first night.
The fields in which the tents are situated are level and absolutely stunning, very much unspoilt yet well maintained with regards to the grass being well cut. The fields are slightly divided with beautiful patches of woodland trees so it's not just 1 giant field, We had great fun hanging a tree swing and playing hide and seek in the trees.
The communal shelter with gas hobs and sinks for washing up is pretty much in the centre of the fields and not far from anyone to walk back to thier tent. As are the eco toilets, having never used one I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised how clean and not smelly they are, as long as everybody uses them in the correct way and people show thier children how to use them there won't be a problem.
From a personal view I was so pleased to see that all the products used across site, washing up liquid, hand soap etc are eco friendly and cruelty free, being aware that these products can cost about 3 times as much as 'regular' products it shows how much they love what they are doing.
Overall I think this is a fantastic place to stay for some good quality family time away from the busy life and I pads etc our children have become so used too and highly recommend it. We will certainly be returning.
    Joy :-)

We spent a wonderful three nights at Firecrest Valley in one of the glamping bell tents - what a luxury to be so well provided for, but in such a beautiful, simple location in the countryside. The staff were helpful, the tent well equipped, and the facilities excellent. We hope to be back soon!

The tent was cosy, but we booked for 6 and had one double bed, 3 small single futons, really cramped.

    Disliked:

The toilets were horrific, had to use a scoop of sawdust after every use 😱.

Not enough sleeping space for all 6 of us which we had booked for a provided ages on booking!

Only one small solar powered lantern in tent, not enough to provide light in the evening, had to go purchase battery operated lights so we could see!

No hair drying facilities so with the horrific rain we had, no way at all to dry our children’s hair or clothes.

No specified road to tents, due to weather we had we just about got our car off the site which we had to leave a day early due to the weather and unable to keep dry and warm!

Fair from glamping more like tramping.

Complained to site and the customer service and attitude we received to our complaint was appalling! Finally did get a £50 refund out of the £140 we paid for 2 days which we only stayed for 1 night due to the conditions of the site!

Would never go back or recommend to anyone.

From the manager...

We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your stay at Firecrest Valley and the eco glamping experience. Preserving the natural environment by running an eco site is very important to us here at Firecrest Valley but it’s unfortunate that it wasn’t what you expected. Thank you for contacting us directly and we apologise that there was in issue with you bedding, the tents are set up personally for each set of guests. These mistakes don’t happen often but we are only human and we would have been happy to rectify the situation had we been made aware at the time.

    The site
This is a new business and as such I’m sure there are many more improvements that this site will see. The site is several tree lined fields, in a former live was a golf course grass is not long contrary to another review, its not centre court, but is suitable for camping. The views are very good (Even in the misty weather), there is a little in the way of traffic noise to be heard, there is an occasional aircraft overhead but not enough to dampen your peaceful stay. Not sure about star visibility – it was too cloudy for me to check. Location to tourist locations is excellent. Carmarthen is about 25 minutes away Lidl is enroute for supplies. Nearby is the Hill fort (A must especially on Tuesdays when they have cooking and fighting in the roundhouses!) Teifi valley railway (Also a must, its a bit shabby but this has been revived from previous owners recklessness by a team of selfless volunteers, it needs support to remain) Caws Cheese in Cenarth also a good stop on the way home. The family owners are very friendly and if you need something, just ask.
    FAQs
The reception is current a tent on the main field (owning to the fact it’s a new business) its manned every day 9-11 and 4-6pm its your chance to get a firepit and wood £5 a bag. For directions follow the written directions on the website, i.e. go past the turning the satnav will send you don if using postcode – it’s a much easier drive. And help if you need it to light a camp fire 😉 during our stay there was plenty of space for bring your own tent. At time of visit there were 6 erected bell tents. The site could cater for a lot more visitors.
    Showers
Water as always hot and powerful enough, watch out for the sink tap pressure it over squirts the sink in shower cubicle so shave, brush teeth in the nip before your shower. Caution there is no cold tap in there. There were 4 showers for the site when we stayed, no doubt for 2019 this will increase as the business grows. In each cubicle is a bench and three hooks – enough room to shower and get changed.
    Toilets
compost type 😊 LOL they were cleaned and importantly emptied every day ! there are two but a third is on its way, the pee is separated from the poo, the survival of these toilets will rely on us as punters following the instructions properly, also by turning the light off ! its solar battery backed, so on one night run out of juice (no water to wash your hands of light to see what you are doing – and trust me you need that otherwise you could have sawdust in some not nice places), but this was rectified in the morning very quickly.
    Washing up area
This is shared with the cooking area for glampers – 2 hobs, 2 sinks, propane/butane , its has a roof, but no doors or windows, word of warning here and the only real negative point for the site washing water is cold only, so unless you boil your pans on your stove before washing them it will be difficult to get them clean..ps hand wash and washing liquid is on site and is eco friendly.
    Play area
There is a small area with a wooden swing and a large sandpit, all the children on the site enjoyed this area, its all newly build and was all secure, other than this there was also plenty of exploring for the children to do.
    Dog walking field
adequately sized and even supplied with a doggy poo waste bin in the middle (Under the tree)

Would I go back yes in short – I’d especially like to know how this site develops in future years.

    Disliked:

I’d like to see a hot water supply fitted here for washing up., in fact its the only reason why i gave it four stars. Just ensure you prepare for this, Eco washing liqiuid is supplied, just remember to boil a bit of water if you need it :) I'd still recommend this site

From the manager...

Thank you for writing such a detailed review! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and that you liked the site and the area.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our first summer here and welcoming our first guests and it is great to get thorough feedback.
As you suggested, we've got a lot of development planned over the coming months with a brand new shower block and reception building in the pipe line, as well as instalation of hot water in the communal shelter. We look forward to welcoming you back to see the changes!

Local attractions

There are plenty of places to stretch your legs around here: trot out from Firecrest Valley to amble along the banks of the Teifi river, or take a 15-minute drive for a wander round Cenarth Falls (where you might spot leaping salmon in season). For sea-view strolls, it’ll take you around 25 minutes to drive to Aberporth to pick up the Wales Coast Path (although it’s possible you may decide to settle on the beach here instead).

That stretch of coast is quite the hub for active options, too – sea kayaking, paddleboarding and coasteering are popular picks, as is cantering through the surf on horseback. If it’s something less strenuous you seek, maybe try a dolphin-spotting boat trip from Gwbert, 40 minutes away.

On dry land, there are castles to conquer (Cardigan and Cilgerran castles are both about half an hour away) and plenty of kid-friendly days out including Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and the Blue Lagoon Water Park, all of which are within an hour’s drive.

Must see

  • National Wool Museum (1.9 kilometers)
