General

  • Scenic and eco-friendly site with views of the Brecon Beacons
  • Coarse fishing available for a small daily charge
  • Golf course two minutes' walk away; 10 minutes to local pub

A quiet corner of Carmarthenshire, with fishing on site and a golf course and pub within easy ambling distance – land yourself a spot at Llandyfan Camping and Fishing and all this shall be yours.

Being on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this peaceful place is mighty scenic. It’s rather handily located too, a 10-minute drive from both Ammanford (where there’s a train station, restaurants and a sizeable supermarket for supplies) and pretty Llandeilo (for artsy shops and an excellent deli).

Naturally (this being Wales) there are castles nearby – both Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen are within a 10-minute drive. Beyond them are outings to botanic gardens, beaches and of course the Beacons themselves, a most fab place for all manner of outdoorsy activities. Perhaps don’t tire yourselves out too much by day though, lest you fall asleep early and miss the starry shows in the country's first International Dark Sky Reserve...

Out and about in this area has much to recommend it but so does sticking about on site for a bit, especially if you’re into fishing. Bring along your rods and a licence and for a small charge you can use the site’s coarse fishing lake.

This is an eco-friendly site, which generates its own power from wind and solar energy and backup generators and has its own water supply. And it’s a friendly one too: owner Bob’s garnered many plaudits from previous guests, partly because he’s a helpful chap and partly because he’ll sort you out with a firepit and firewood for your cosy evenings (for a small charge).

Please note

Electricity is free however, the site generates its own power as such they are limited to the amount they can offer. Electric kettles, electric water heaters and electric fires are not allowed. Fridges should be run on gas. Use of televisions, lights, charging of mobiles and computers is fine.

Pond on site to fish, lots of activities in surrounding area, site owner very helpful

    Disliked:

No specific time for music to be turned off at night, and electric was turned off daily as it run out, only one toilet and shower

From the manager...

I had no complaints about music being on to late or I would have stopped it.

As for electric I supply it free, and it is limited because I am not on the mains. People are told no heating appliances are allowed but some people abuse it and put heaters on. That is when the overload switch operates and the power goes off.

There is one shower and toilet for the ladies and one for the men. It is not practical to supply more for for the couple of times per year when we are busy. Also I would not get planning to build another shower block.
I did not see you mention how clean the shower block was and how good the showers are like other comments I have.
Look at the 10/10 comments I have
If I get any more complaints like this I will close the field to camping. At my time of life I don,t want the hassle.

The area was nice with plenty activities to do within driving distance.

    Disliked:

The field has quite a big slope. We couldn't get a fire pit in the first day.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. As for the field being on a slope there is not much I can do to what nature made. As for not being able to get a fire pit. If people didn't steal them there would be plenty to go round.

This is a great little site and the perfect place to get away from it all. It's a little basic but it has everything you need. Bob the owner works tirelessly to keep it clean and makes you feel very welcome. It's great to be able to rent fire pits and have a fire, most sites don't allow this so it a real bonus. The local area has some lovely walks in beautiful countryside.

    Disliked:

A lot of the site is on a bit of a slope so you need to either get there early for a good flat pitch, or make sure you have some method for levelling your Camper or Caravan. The local pub was a bit of a letdown, it's seen better days and there was an odd smell inside. We didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. As for the field being on a slope there is not much I can do to what nature made. I do offer timber for leveling. In the future I will leveling blocks to hire.

Very friendly and accommodating host Bob, who gave us information about the area and local walks. The fishing lake was lovely. The site was nice and peaceful and we felt close to nature. Clean toilet+shower. It was great to be able to have a fire at night and Bob has fire pits and logs available. It's great that electricity is generated via solar panels and a wind turbine (which Bob built himself!), Plenty of power for a radio and a phone charger.

My friends and I stayed at Llandyfan Camping and Fishing for 2 nights and we had a wonderful time. The place is perfect for people who want to have a break from the busyness of the city and reconnect with the wilderness. The camping site is very close to Brecon Beacons and I definitely recommend to anyone to have a walk around the place as it offers incredible views that you wouldn't find in other places. If you want to know more about the local area and have more infos, ask Bob. He's such a lovely and helpful man who has put heart and soul in building this beautiful place and he is more than glad to give you suggestions and to help you.

great atmosphere, helpful/pleasant owner, nice walks from campsite. Also the diversity of flora, birds and other wildlife around the site is impressive - ecology has thankfully been considered here and managed well.

    Disliked:

only one washing sink which is understandable as it's a small site, but waiting to wash dishes = the least fun queue i can think of.

After a bit of activity? You’re but a few minutes away from the Brecon Beacons and all the antics they’ve got to offer: miles of trails for walkers and cyclists, plus climbing, horse riding and watersports. Something a little gentler? The Glynhir Golf Course is a couple of minutes’ walk away, and there are leisurely riverside walks to be had in Llandeilo’s Castle Woods (10 minutes’ drive).

Folk who are intrigued by what lies below ground can delve into the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (40 minutes). If you’d rather stay on the surface you can take a wander in the gorgeous National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) or head to Carreg Cennen (10 minutes), one of Wales’ most spectacularly sited castles, with some stunning views from its hilltop spot (be ready for a bit of a climb…).

Looking a little further afield, it’ll take you 40 minutes to get to the gorgeous sandy beach of Pembrey or an hour to get to Oakwood Theme Park and the Blue Lagoon waterpark.
