Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Stayed here before, a bit out of the way, but that's what we wanted. Toilets - showers could do with an upgrade. Other than that can't fault the place. Most pitches on a slight slope, but ok if you have wheel chocks. Nice covered area with benches and tables if it's raining.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Location was very pretty. We were made very welcome by owners/staff. Change available for showers and lots of information regarding local facilities. Staff very present and helpful. Very easy access to Lord Hereford's Knob from the site, straight up! Great price for the area.

Disliked: Really liked this site and it is very clear on pitchup what is on offer and what isn't. These are points to consider not things we disliked. DofE groups are the sites main focus so there were large groups of young people sharing the facilities, however we were still made to feel very welcome, the groups are in bed fairly early and up and out in the morning so finding shower not an issue. There is a covered cooking area (for dofe groups only) which amplifies the sounds but this did not go on late either of the nights we stayed and as we were backpackingwe were in bed early. Shower was basic but hot 50p for 8 mins is reasonable compared with other local sites. Portaloos were available in the camping field in addition to the toilets in the main facilities, these were not great to be honest with some lacking water and soap and none seeming very clean, maybe we caught them just prior to a service visit! One thing we hadn't picked up on was that the site asks you to take all rubbish home and bins are not provided, as we had arrived on foot this did prove a small issue and we ended up disposing of our rubbish in a public bin a few miles from site and unsorted since we were unable to continue our journey carrying full packs and a rubbish sack. This Would have been ok had we not ordered food to site and had packaging to dispose of. We discovered too late that the garden centre in Three Cocks has a recycling point available during opening times. Site is sloped, this is obvious from the pictures online, we managed to find a suitable spot for a backpacking tent without too much issue, the views make up for it!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: I have a small campervan and stayed anywhere in the fields. Gorgeous campsite with amazing views! Nice clean toilet and shower facilities. The owners were friendly , helpful and very welcoming. I enjoyed chatting to them and they went above and beyond for me by offering to dry my sheet for me after I had spilt water on it. Look forward to coming back!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Really friendly and helpful campsite host. Great price and clean facilities. Beautiful views! Our dog LOVED the off leash dog field too.

Disliked: Be prepared for high winds and changeable weather, the site is very exposed. Some pitches more sloped than others.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: What a lovely campsite. The owners were very welcoming. Facilities were clean and the shower warm - need 50p per shower. Dog friendly and a Great dog walking area. Perfect place for a weekend getaway. The fields are a bit on a slant but there are areas that are flat. Can also arrive and leave when suits. For a bank holiday weekend it was lovely and quiet.

Local attractions

Your boots will be made for walking: this corner of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park has footpaths and trails all around to warm you up before tackling the hill walks and mountains, and all in a spectacular part of Wales made up of valleys, waterfalls, caves and open countryside. There are a couple of walks direct from Newcourt and two long-distance trails cross through the farm: the Offa’s Dyke Path on the eastern border of the national park and the Taff Trail running south from Brecon. The Brecon Beacons Park Society has a full programme of guided walks in the park from moderate to strenuous, and there are lots of routes and maps available from the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (or just ask Newcourt Farm owner David to point you in the right direction). The national park’s also where you can get your fill of climbing, birdwatching, caving, canoeing, sailing and other outdoor options; a visitor centre six miles from Brecon has all the info you might need as well as courses and events like pottery workshops and navigation training. Also around are several Sustrans routes for cyclists as well cycle hire and cycle tour guide companies; mountain bikers have five mountain bike centres and 14 trails from yellow (level one) to ‘killer black’ (bring plasters). Wheels on tour can cycle the Lôn Las Cymru, the route from Cardiff to Holyhead via Brecon (use route 42). After all that, you hereby have permission to curl up with a book: buy your tomes at the town of books, Hay-on-Wye, about half an hour from Brecon.
