'Rewilding for the soul' is how the owners of Be Wilder Camps sum up their place – an idea that makes a lot of sense in this secluded part of rural Somerset. Spending time in nature and kicking back among greenery is, after all, a very relaxing and rewarding way to spend a holiday, and this family-friendly option is a top place to have a few days dedicated to doing just that.
The site is just down the road from the tiny village of Wanstrow, close to the edge of the Mendip Hills. It's easy to get out to a range of tried-and-tested Somerset attractions like Nunney Castle (10 minutes' drive), Bruton (10 minutes) and Frome (15 minutes), but Be Wilder Camps also organises a range of outdoor courses and activities (like bushcraft, a daily forest school and yoga) that are sure to help you see the local area in a new light, as well as evening fireside food sessions on some nights.
Be Wilder Camps is located on a small rare breeds farm park where you can visit all sorts of animals, so the owners know a thing or two about looking after the land. You'll be staying in their hilltop field, where there are truly outstanding views over the local countryside – the woodland that flanks a side of the pitching area adds an extra touch of wild vibes to the place and is a great spot to spy on visiting animals and birds.
As well as its essential facilities, the site has a coffee van serving hot drinks and pastries and an on-site shop where you can pick up firewood or barbecue coals.
