Bells at Cleavel Point: Relax and enjoy.

General

  • Coastal glamping site in private woodland on the Isle of Purbeck
  • A 15-minute drive from Corfe Castle and the Swanage Railway
  • Coast views, jetty for kayak launching and pop-up shop on site

Way to sum up Bells at Cleavel Point in a single word? ‘Wow’ should just about cover it… for this gorgeous glamping site is in a mighty fine Dorset spot right by the sea on the Isle of Purbeck, with a rare and enviable 270-degree outlook over Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island and Sandbanks.

And that’s the kind of view you could settle down to stare at for quite some time, right? Feel free to do so… owner Jon and his friendly team will even enhance the experience by renting you a giant bean bag to sprawl out on and a campfire tripod so you can grill up a bit of grub to munch on while you do so – how very splendid.

This scenic site is accessed through the peaceful woodlands of a private estate (you’ll be given a key code for the gate ahead of arrival) so it’s worth bringing along plenty of supplies to ensure you don’t have to haul yourselves away too often. Corfe Castle, 15 minutes’ drive away, is your nearest source of shops (plus pubs and eateries) but there’s also a pop-up shop on site with cold drinks, milk and barbecue bits (both the meat and the wood required to cook it).

Smart glamping options are well spaced around the site for peaceful slumbers – they all have access to drinking water, regularly-scrubbed portaloos and a hot shower.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Units heavier than 3500 Kg are not allowed.

Units longer than 6 metres are not allowed.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

The grocery shop is open between 06/07 and 06/09.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Gazebos are not permitted on site at any time.

This spot has it all for anyone. Such a treat to sit and watch the sunset (sunrise?😉) beside a fire, while greeted to a wonderful coastal strip as you open the bell tent in the morning. Theres also a vast woodland area just waiting to be explored ⛺️🌲 And lets not forget the clean toilets! All in all we had a lovely stay and would come back again 😀

It was a beautiful area. The tents well spaced. Everything was clean and welcoming. Communal fridges provided (which was a nice surprise). Level pitches. We where put up on one over looking the water. Which was also where the sun rises.
The bell tents where very big and sturdy. The second night was very windy, other than the noise you wouldn't have known, the tent barely moved.
The field is massive and the children had plenty of space to run around. Ride their bikes and climb nearby trees.

    Disliked:

It was a bit further from swanage than I'd realised. It's in the middle of nowhere which something I liked and disliked at the same time.

I had a truly amazing time staying in a Bell tent, camping in this beautiful peaceful harbour location on an extremely well unobtrusively organised site.
John, the sites manager went out of his way to make sure that his clients needs were catered for, enquiring daily if all was okay, thus ensuring I had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
My tent was beautiful presented, and each tent had its own wooden table with attached benches, and a fire pit.
The portable cabins for showering and the portable toilet were kept very clean.
In the washing up tented facility drinking water was provided, and a bin for waste disposal emptied daily, together with hand sanitizer and a notice reminding people to wash their hands.
The tents were very well distanced from each other, giving a true sense of being in the open air, and during this Coronavirus year very reassuring whilst allowing for client privacy.

Local attractions

You may possibly decide simply to stay put for the duration of your stay but it really is worth getting out to see a bit more of your splendid Purbeck surrounds. Start by getting a feel for coast and countryside by bringing along kayaks to launch from the site’s jetty, or heading out on walking or mountain bike trails around the peninsula.

Once you’ve pottered locally, set out for some of the area’s other pretty spots: perhaps the famed ruins of Corfe Castle (15 minutes’ drive), the nature reserve and stunning beaches at Studland Bay (20 minutes), the fossil-foraging beach at Kimmeridge (half an hour) or the huge stone arch at Durdle Door (40 minutes).

Something for the kids (and the big kids)? Try a steam-hauled ride on the Swanage Railway (15 minutes), floating inflatable madness at Dorset Adventure Park (15 minutes), rural animal-spotting at Farmer Palmer’s Farm Park, watching the apes in action at Monkey World or wandering among the military heavyweights at The Tank Museum (all half an hour).

Must see

  • Studland Beach and Nature Reserve (2.7 kilometers)
  • Brownsea Island (3.3 kilometers)
