Barle Brook Retreat

Loved having the place to ourselves, the chickens running round.

There was a problem with getting the WiFi but nothing wrong with a few days of not reading the news!

Wonderful location and facilities. Lovely personal touches from the owners and a very special weekend.

We were a group of 9 friends who stayed in Barle Brook on our last night of camping. It was the perfect place! It's in a secluded area, with beautiful views and a stream within the site. We were welcomed with fresh eggs and marshmallows for the fire in the evening on our way back from the beach! Would definitely come back again, thank you very much!

We have loved our stay at Barle Brook. Great private hide away for a back to nature family holiday. Great location for exploring Combe Martin and the amazing rock pools, Woolacombe beach for body boarding and Exmoor nation park for walks! We have had heavy rain and 40mph winds but didn’t stop play, chucked on wellies and rain coats and embraced the weather. We didn’t get chance to paddle in the brook but the kids loved exploring around the area and the fire pit is a great touch.
Jess and her family are friendly and helpful, especially coming to our rescue in the pouring rain with jump leads when we got a flat battery one morning in camp. Definitely would recommend and will be returning 😊

As a group of friends in our 20s and 30s, we had an amazing time at Barle brook. Jess was a wonderful host, checking in with us to make sure everything was ok and providing us with everything we needed. We even got fresh eggs for breakfast! The site is beautiful and the firepit was a lot of fun. Plenty of room for our tents, there is a drinking water tap on site, and an open air loo! We will definitely be visiting again, cannot recommend this place highly enough - fabulous!

Place to ourselves, chickens, marshmallows and corn to feed chcikens a lovely touch. Electric hookup for our camper. Friendly helpful when we got lost on the way, recommend!

Satnav got us lost - they hadnt had this experience before so probably just my phone, its directly off the B road - you dont need to drive up a long narrow rutted track ending up in a field full of sheep like we did!

Fresh flowers and eggs greeted us on arrival, the pitch is idyllic and extremely peaceful. We spent just two nights but fell in love with the place the owner was very helpful and the chickens adorable. No fuss no frills just perfect !!

Nothing to dislike

Perfect private camping pitch with its own stream and space for our campervan and tent with plenty of room for games and sitting in the sun. It faces south/south west so you can park in the shade of the tree and relax. The little stream entertained my 8 year old and the ‘panning for gold’ table kept him happily entertained whilst I set up. Greeting by the owner with flowers and eggs from their chickens... a very friendly inquisitive troop that were very funny to watch, the owner gave my boy some corn to feed them which he absolutely loved... they are not averse to trying to sneak a share of your breakfast too!! Lovely spot will be returning as really well placed to visit local area and also enjoy the walks and pub in the village. There is a shop 5minutes walk next to the pub . WiFi is intermittent.. a good thing if you want to get away from it all.

A beautiful location beside a brook and overlooking the surrounding countryside. We were made to feel very welcome with fresh cut flowers and 6 eggs freshly laid by the resident chickens. There was also a ‘welcoming’ committee in the form of 4 cheeky little dogs who checked us out to make sure we were behaving! The brook was an ideal place to keep our beers cool and we discovered the skill for firepit cooking (we can particularly recommend baked Camembert!) A great location for exploring both Exmoor National Park and the stunning coastline.

Sketchy WiFi access and no phone signal, but maybe that’s not a bad thing!

One of the best short stay camping trips we’ve ever had and there have been a few. The whole experience was magic from the meet and greet at the gate to the final farewell.
It’s a beautiful well sheltered spot away which has been kept almost as natural as possible. Really pretty areas where it was possible to relax or eat while listening to the babbling brook. We made good use of the fire pit which was already on the pitch and enjoyed the company of the free-range chickens when they came to visit. Brilliant.
