Family-friendly and family-run site with walks down to Lee Bay
Set on 27 peaceful acres a couple of miles from Woolacombe
Farm shop, tearoom and e-bike/bike hire: trails straight from the farm

Traditional Devon farm stays are the name of the game at family-owned and -run Lee Meadow Farm a couple of miles from the sands and surf of Woolacombe, set among 27 acres with woodland views on one side and Devon hills on the other, and with views of the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

There's a farm shop here too, selling free-range eggs from the farm's hens alongside stacks of products made fresh on site, and a site tearoom for cream teas before (and after) walks from the site down to Lee Bay through Fuschia Valley.

Easy walks and bike rides are simple to access straight from the farm, and the safe cycling of the former Ilfracombe branch line is just at the end of the farm lane. There's plenty of space on site too for kids to run about – or they could trot along to meet the Lee Valley piglets as well as lambs in the spring.

Facilities are well kept and include free hot showers, flushing toilets and washing-up sinks; a disabled shower and toilet facilities plus a baby changing area and a token-operated hairdryer. E-bike and cycle hire is available on site.

And finally, the two pubs within walking distance selling fine ales, cider and food are faves with the locals – always a good sign for pubs…

Lots of shower and toilet cubicles: We did not have to queue during our 3 night stay.
The social distancing measures were good, with face coverings required in communal areas, hand gel available and facilities cleaned regularly.
Space for kids to play in the middle of the camping fields and the children also enjoyed visiting the pigs.
Pitches were level.

7 extended adult family members (3 tents and 1 caravan) spent August Bank holiday here (3 nights). Being a Bank Holiday, the site was rather busy but I would happily return, perhaps at a quieter time.
The owners were welcoming and had made every effort to ensure people could use public areas with confidence; there was sanitiser in all public areas and suitable precautions in the shop etc. Loos and showers were cleaned 5 times a day.
After a particularly heavy rainfall, the owner came round to check we were OK which was a nice touch.
I didn't see any playground equipment but there was plenty of space for ball games in the camping fields.

Disliked:

Haven't rated Wi-Fi as I didn't use it and don't know if it is available.

great location, friendly bunch, really like the shop, practical and with lots of tasty local stuff, very fairly priced. Showers and amenities are clean and fine. The location is good. Could do with a play area for kids. No noise after 10.30pm and no amplified music is really appreciable. We used it as a base for surfing (woolcombe and putsborough), fishing (Ilfracombe) and hiking. 4g signal is good (can connect to work).

Local attractions

Seven miles of golden sand beaches, surfing, diving, kayaking and shore and boat fishing are all within a few minutes' drive of the farm; on land, mountain biking, hiking, golf, horse riding and quad biking are all available locally.

Within a 10-minute drive are Croyde, Putsborough, Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows, the biggest sand dune system in the UK and part of North Devon's Biosphere Reserve, Britain's first.

The dunes are also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a national nature reserve and a Special Area of Conservation for their 400+ species of plant: take a picnic of Lee Meadow Farm produce and see how many you can spot.

The small fishing villages of Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth are also nearby, as are the dozens of old villages, scenic coastal walks, moorland and rivers of Exmoor National Park, worth at least a couple of days for its 620 or so miles of footpaths and bridleways, its cycle paths, its climbing, sea fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
