Spacious pitches

General

  • On 70 acres of landscaped parkland close to Exmoor
  • Three specimen carp lakes; River Mole angling nearby
  • Play area, shop and country club with bar and restaurant

If a caravan park has 'Riverside' in its name, you might reckon you might get some fishing. And you'd be right: South Molton's Riverside Caravan and Camping Park has three specimen lakes stocked with quality carp, and more angling (and paddling) can be availed of at the nearby River Mole.

The site sits on 70 acres of landscaped parkland with ten acres of mature woodland running alongside the River Mole: as you might also reckon, it's all mighty pretty.

Riverside, 15 minutes' drive from Barnstaple, is a family-friendly park and has a play area and an on-site shop. A new country club was added in 2017, with a bar and restaurant, serving homemade food and a selection of local lagers, ciders and ales. It's a popular venue for the variety of entertainment on site, or for settling down for a quiet time during the day to use the free wifi.

AA 5 pennants

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The restaurant is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Special events are held on site throughout the season, and may involve live music or other entertainment. Please check your dates beforehand to see whether an event is taking place during your stay. No refunds are given for guests who object to these events.

Excellent site, clean and well organised, good location for Exmoor.10/01/2020

Efficient booking system and welcome at site. Site was not crowded or noisy. Toilet block spotless morning and evening, with great showers. Wash-up was clean, well lit and lots of hot water. Bins emptied regularly. Easy to obtain deposit refund on barrier access card. 15 minute walk to centre of South Molton. Not the cheapest site in the area, but good value for money.

Perhaps the best way to express my satisfaction is that I stayed twice, and will be going back next Spring.

Location is great for hiking on Exmoor.

    Disliked:

Some parts of the camping field were very muddy!

Toilet and shower facilities were clean, campsite was tidy and peaceful, bar was nice. We went for a walk around the fishing lakes early before we left which was nice.

    Disliked:

Stag do of 18yr olds turned up about 9pm in the bar who were loud and unbearable. We went back to our camper van but luckily didn’t hear any noise from them the rest of the night. Can hear noise from the main road but not much you can do about it.

3 camping fields all fairly level, toilets & showers clean, good washing up facilities.

On site shop for emergencies, nice club house, I thought the prices were a little steep for drinks but you expect that.

Over all nice site, little river flowing through of it it, 2 small lakes/ponds for fresh water fishing.

    Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

The 3 camping fields were a little on the boggy side.

Local attractions

If you'd prefer something more active than fishing, it's a 15-minute drive to the Exmoor National Park for miles of scenic walks, mountain bike trails and lots more outdoorsy antics. Canoeing at Wimbleball Lake and beginners' climbing at Valley of Rocks are among the popular picks, as are pony treks and horse riding days through countryside and along the coast.

Speaking of the coast, there's much to enjoy here too: head west for the surf beaches around Croyde and Appledore, or north to Ilfracombe for more beach, the aquarium and boat trips to the island of Lundy. It'll take you 40 minutes or so to hit either stretch of coast.

Kid-friendly days out nearby include heritage rides on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (half an hour's drive), animal encounters at Exmoor Zoo (20 minutes) and Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (half an hour) and easy pedals along the traffic-free Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (15 minutes).
