General

  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach

A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh?

The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games.

Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away.

You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the small sorts it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

    Disliked:

A30 and Redruth was very noisy - people doing donuts in the road at night and load music being played.
And unfortunately no sea view :(

Everything. Outstanding views due to the owners not being greedy and overfilling site. Wonderful central recreational area so that parents can sit on their pitch yet let the children roam and play freely.
If you like walking then this is the place for you. If you look hard enough you hardly need to be on a roadway at all so very dog friendly too.
The owners are exceptionally nice and the amount of cleanliness and anti covid products provided are second to none.
The local pub does wonderful home cooked food and has a fantastic choice of gins. You also must try the pasty shop ....we used to buy them to eat for lunch whilst out walking (but beware they are heavy ....they're enormous).
Take a walk up to cuckoo valley orchard along the old tram tracks and try their wares.
All in all a wonderful site we will he back !!!
    Thank you Amy and David..

Great central location if your looking to visit Newquay, St Ives, Truro and Falmouth. Spotlessly clean and well maintained pitches. Met onsite by Amy who welcomed us and gave us an in depth run down of the site and other amenities. Amazing views across the valley. Amy made it easy to extend our stay as we enjoyed it that much. Would 100% recommend this campsite to all
