Little Trethvas Holidays: Poldhu Cove

General

  • Small friendly site on the Lizard Peninsula
  • Two miles from Lizard Point and three from Mullion village
  • Access to the South West Coast Path within walking distance of Kynance

If y'all would like some suggestions on what to see and do when scooting around the Lizard, ask the clan at Little Trethvas Holidays.

Convivial owners Liz and Mike have been camping on this cracking Cornish peninsula for over 20 years and know very much what's what re where to go in the region, as well as what guests might like on a site.

All these marks of good travelling taste are on a small, natural-looking site two miles from Lizard Point and Cadgwith fishing village and three miles from Mullion village; the site is also accessible from the South West Coast Path (just off the lane) and within walking distance of fair Kynance Cove. There are six toilets and five showers in a block newly renovated for the 2018 season, as well as a revamped and undercover washing-up area, washing machine, tumble dryer, outdoor drying area and a fridge and freezer for guests' use.

Little Trethvas also has a tourist information room with a local attractions board updated daily – and if you want some more specific info, Liz and Mike just might be able to let you know.

Very clean toilets and showers and Liz was very friendly and helpful. Pitch size was a decent size and close to some lovely coves for coastal walks. Free roaming chickens and a Turkey were lovely to see.

    Disliked:

Other people with dogs leaving dog Pooh on the camping field! But this isn’t a fault of the campsite owners. Wi-fi did not reach to the fields! You had to stand right by the owners house to be able to use it which was a pain!

From the manager...

So sorry re the dog poo. we make it very clear that owners pick up ater their dogs and always keep them on a lead.
Rgarding wifi. we get lots of feedback like this but we do have a booster from house so uploads and emails can be accessed from old farmyard.
glad overall you had a great time and walked the amazing SW coast path. Lizzie

The owners were such lovely people and made us feel very welcome. The facilities on site were fantastic, definitely the best showers we have found on a campsite. So wonderful to have use of the fridge, freezer, washing machines and sink. Excellent location too, so quick and easy to access all the beautiful harbours, pubs, beaches etc on the Lizard. Thoroughly recommend walking down to Cadgewith Cove, the pub is really lovely and serves gorgeous food, the little fishmongers there too is so sweet and has some delicious fresh options. We will definitely be back in the future.

    Disliked:

The only downside to our break was the wind! This is obviously out of the owners control, but perhaps they could think of bigger hedges etc between the pitches to create a bit more shelter.
Think we just picked a windy week though, we did ask if there was anything they could do and they were more than happy for us to move to a more sheltered pitch which was greatly appreciated.
Wouldn’t put us off visiting again.

From the manager...

Beatrice we are thrilled you gave us 10/10.we realise it was a really freak cold wind or over a week. this is rare at this time of year. we do get windy days but not days on end except in Winter months, we are glad we were able to move you to a sheltered pitch more suited to a tent in windy conditions.well done for staying the course and judging by the wonderul pics you had wonderul walks. Pitches level and marked out. Great circular walks down to lizard available - recommend eating and drinking at the Witchball in Lizard, fish and chips and a pint of rattler/tribute unbelievable value and quality.

Apologies for the small grass singe guys - we had it raised and on the stone but wasn't enough.

Local attractions

You'll be on the beach, cliffs and along the South West Coast Path first, probably… and after that, there's loads to do around Little Trethvas Holidays, from fishing and sailing to horse riding and off-road biking.

As with much/most of Cornwall, the surf is pretty spectacular around this part of coast too, but it's quieter here than more famed surf spots like Newquay: try Kennack Sands or the surf school at Poldhu Cove.

Kids will likely love a whirl around Flambards theme park at Helston and have a hoot at Gweek's Cornish Seal Sanctuary; Falmouth Maritime Museum and the 650 birds and animals of the Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary at Hayle should also be hits.

One of the most popular places to stop off around the Lizard is the country's tip at Land's End – be sure to get your pic snapped at the iconic signpost – and another is most lovely St Michael's Mount, the tiny island with medieval church and castle, reached across the water from Marazion.

Must see

  • National Seal Sanctuary (11.5 kilometers)
  • Flambards (11.6 kilometers)
  • Trebah Garden (14.2 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (12.0 kilometers)
  • Glendurgan Garden (14.1 kilometers)
