  • Family-run site a short walk from pubs in Ashton and Breage
  • Three miles from the beach, harbour and restaurants of Porthleven
  • Playground, licensed shop and bar/restaurant on site
According to Greek mythology, the original ‘Elysian Fields’ were beautiful meadows, the ultimate paradise, and a place to enjoy perfect happiness. Believed to be in the west, at the end of the earth, and surrounded by ‘Oceanus’, they provided sanctuary and breathed new life into all those worthy of entering. Cornwall’s own Elysian Fields is between the little villages of Breage and Ashton, with seven acres of serene space and scenic views towards Tregonning Hill, as well as distant glimpses of the sea and cliffs of the Lizard peninsula. Pitch up here and you’ll be able to stroll along quiet footpaths to the local villages or walk to the top of Tregonning Hill, which stands at 194 metres and gives views from coast to coast over west Cornwall, including Mount’s Bay and St Ives. More adventurous walkers can explore the Godolphin Estate, while those who’ve come along for the coast can take a short drive to the ancient harbour at Porthleven or gorgeous Praa Sands beach. The site has its own bar and restaurant, Tony's Tavern, with draught Cornish beers and cider. Cornish breakfasts and lighter breakfast baps are available in the mornings between 9am and 11am, and a range of evening meals are on offer between 6pm and 9pm. Takeaway meals can be delivered to the pitches if you prefer. To make your stay more comfortable, picnic benches, windbreaks and firepits can be hired, with a plentiful supply of kiln-dried logs on sale in the shop to help warm up cooler evenings. Also on site are a playground, a small shop (open from 8:30am to 11am and from 4pm to 8pm), a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines and a tumble dryer. Guests also have free use of two large freezers, a fridge, an iron and ironing board, and a microwave.

Liked: Jackie was a wonderful host. Always went out her way to make us feel welcome. We had a great week. The park was great for the kids age (5) and (7). Tony’s tavern was really good, serving great food and had a good selection at the bar for drinks. The shower and toilet facilities are like new, with your own toilet/shower/sink/towel rail. Porthleven is just down the road, with shops and good pubs to eat out in. It’s better to drive as the road hasn’t got paths but you can walk through the paths by the corner of the field and around the fields.

Liked: Everything about Elysian Fields is perfect for us - location - nature - and the people. Such a warm welcome from the team and you always feel they are there to help if needed. The facilities are excellent particularly the showers/toilets which are like a boutique style hotel - each has a unique Elysian Fields design - always spotless when we’ve been there. The sense of calm and nature around the pitch is just what we need to escape the rush of life. Location makes it easy to reach all the places we love - coastal walks, beaches, Porthleven/Porthcurno/Lizard. Large pitches, well serviced, most are level, easy for occasional campers to manage! Can’t wait to return. Thank you all at Elysian Fields

Liked: Lovely big open site, good facilities and great little shop on site. Nataliia was so lovely and friendly and really helpful! We had to stay an extra night and had no issues with adding an extra night to our stay. Would definitely recommend. Close to Porthleven - lovely little harbour village with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants!

Liked: Came back today from a 4 night stay. We had a wonderful time and a special mention to Natalia who was incredibly helpful and friendly. The onsite bar does lovely food, there is a child's play area, a handy on-site shop and the facilities are excellent, the showers/toilet blocks were always clean when we used it. Plenty of recycling and general waste bins including dog waste. At the bottom of the electrical hook-up field is a gate and across the track was a wonderful grassy/trees area which we were advised by other campers that we could use to let the dog run about. Really good location to get to Porthleven, Helston and Flambards and beyond. Would stay here again.

Disliked: Not enough showers - they're good so they're always busy, could do with another block.

Local attractions

Having gazed out over Tregonning Hill, it's a fine idea to amble over there for a closer look. It’ll take you around 45 minutes of leisurely walking to get to the top for some excellent views over both north and south coasts and plenty of historical info on the old mining pits and war memorial. Likewise, the beaches you’ve glimpsed from afar look pretty fab from up close too. The sands of Porthleven, three miles away, are the nearest, and there are plenty of others a short drive away, including Praa Sands and Marazion (from where you can take a boat or cross the causeway to St Michael’s Mount). Arty types may like to spend a day in St Ives, half an hour’s drive away, taking in the exhibits of Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Perhaps less highbrow but equally entertaining are the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek and the rides and attractions at The Flambards Experience, both of which are around a 15-minute drive away.
