Elysian Fields: Some happy guests enjoying the sunshine

General

  • Family-run site a short walk from pubs in Ashton and Breage
  • Three miles from the beach, harbour and restaurants of Porthleven
  • Playground, licensed shop and bar/restaurant on site

According to Greek mythology, the original ‘Elysian Fields’ were beautiful meadows, the ultimate paradise, and a place to enjoy perfect happiness. Believed to be in the west, at the end of the earth, and surrounded by ‘Oceanus’, they provided sanctuary and breathed new life into all those worthy of entering.

Cornwall’s own Elysian Fields is between the little villages of Breage and Ashton, with seven acres of serene space and scenic views towards Tregonning Hill, as well as distant glimpses of the sea and cliffs of the Lizard peninsula. Pitch up here and you’ll be able to stroll along quiet footpaths to the local villages or walk to the top of Tregonning Hill, which stands at 194 metres and gives views from coast to coast over west Cornwall, including Mount’s Bay and St Ives. More adventurous walkers can explore the Godolphin Estate, while those who’ve come along for the coast can take a short drive to the ancient harbour at Porthleven or gorgeous Praa Sands beach.

The site has its own bar and restaurant, Tony's Tavern, with draught Cornish beers and cider. Cornish breakfasts and lighter breakfast baps are available in the mornings between 9am and 11am, and a range of evening meals are on offer between 6pm and 9pm. Takeaway meals can be delivered to the pitches if you prefer.

To make your stay more comfortable, picnic benches, windbreaks and firepits can be hired, with a plentiful supply of kiln-dried logs on sale in the shop to help warm up cooler evenings.

Also on site are a playground, a small shop, and a laundry room with coin-operated washing machines and a tumble dryer. Guests also have free use of two large freezers, a fridge, an iron and ironing board, and a microwave.

Please note

The bar is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The grocery shop is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Great location, well looked after site. Tonys bar on site was a lovely place to have a few drinks and some food. Due to Covid restrictions we could not go inside which was a shame as it looked lovely. However the outdoor seating area was more than good enough. Friendly helpful staff.
    We will definitely return

Everything was great. Facilities were abundant, brand new and very clean. Staff was super welcoming, accomodating and very helpful. On site tavern had nice choice of beers om draft and decent basic food at reasonable prices.

    Disliked:

Maybe when operating at full capacity in peak times the pitches could be a bit tight but suppose you can rent a bigger one if you need more space.

Genuinely the nicest campsite we’ve been to. Site was incredibly well maintained and really lovely! toilets/showers etc were immaculate, staff went the extra mile for COVID safety and opportunity to add on fire pit and buy essentials such as breakfast butty or fire wood! walking distance to two pubs + on site bar and food was lovely!

Our 3 night stay in the NEW dome was more than expected. We were greeted by a wonderful member of staff, took his time to show us around the dome and what it had to offer along with recommendations for the local area.

The dome came fully equipped and had all the essentials including towels, slippers, logs, milk/tea/coffee, milk and bread. They even gave us fresh eggs which we didn't expect.

The on sight toilets/showers were immaculate and always being cleaned. There is also a lovely bar/restaurant on site. (Pizzas are great too!)

    Disliked:

Nothing. I would 100% recommend to anyone.

We were welcomed to the site and shown the ropes by the manager Dan, the caravan was fresh and pleasant, the site was grassy with beautifully planted flowerbeds and shrubs which had taken some thought and skill to set out.
There are wonderful footpaths alongside the main field and sturdy gates and fences all around. My dogs were welcome and there was an agreeable sense that people staying with dogs were trusted to keep things clean and safe without officious signs or warnings.
The lavatories and showers were perfectly clean with piping hot water and good hand washing arrangements.
We especially appreciated the efforts made and courtesy shown to us by the site staff, there were a couple of snags with the caravan locks and I needed advice on working some equipment; I was helped willingly and with good humour.
We really liked the place, it’s in a great spot for touring Land’s End and The Lizard,we recommend it.

Local attractions

Having gazed out over Tregonning Hill, it's a fine idea to amble over there for a closer look. It’ll take you around 45 minutes of leisurely walking to get to the top for some excellent views over both north and south coasts and plenty of historical info on the old mining pits and war memorial.

Likewise, the beaches you’ve glimpsed from afar look pretty fab from up close too. The sands of Porthleven, three miles away, are the nearest, and there are plenty of others a short drive away, including Praa Sands and Marazion (from where you can take a boat or cross the causeway to St Michael’s Mount).

Arty types may like to spend a day in St Ives, half an hour’s drive away, taking in the exhibits of Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Perhaps less highbrow but equally entertaining are the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek and the rides and attractions at The Flambards Experience, both of which are around a 15-minute drive away.

Must see

  • Flambards (6.2 kilometers)
  • St Michael's Mount (9.7 kilometers)
  • National Seal Sanctuary (9.9 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Godolphin (3.2 kilometers)
  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (4.2 kilometers)
