Marden Meadows: Heated showers on site

General

  • Well-equipped site on a working farm in the South Downs National Park
  • A 15-minute drive to Chichester and half an hour to the south coast
  • Kitchen facilities provided; two village pubs within a mile

Marden Meadows is a smart West Sussex site in the gorgeous South Downs National Park, just outside the little village of East Marden and around 15 minutes’ drive north of Chichester.

This site is part of a family-run working farm, so you can expect a peaceful rural atmosphere along with easy access to footpaths and bridleways for guests looking to head out for walks in the surrounding farmland and woodland.

There are, of course, many miles of paths crisscrossing the South Downs, so walkers and bike riders should find plenty to keep them busy for days in the surrounding area. If you fancy a change of scenery, maybe take a day out at Goodwood (15 minutes’ drive away) or head down to the south coast – the likes of Portsmouth, Bognor Regis and West Wittering are all about half an hour’s drive away.

Couples and families alike are welcome at Marden Meadows, with all guests having access to shared kitchen facilities, gas-heated showers and toilets known as ‘festiloos’. Firepits and campfires aren’t permitted here for safety reasons, but guests are allowed to use barbecues as long as they’re raised off the ground.

A couple of excellent village pubs are within a mile if you fancy going out to eat and drink, and the nearby village of Compton (three miles away) has a village shop and tea room.

Please note

Units heavier than 3500 kg are not allowed.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No electric barbecues allowed.

This is a quiet park: no music is allowed.

Beautiful, remote location, minimalist approach to site, pop up facilities …07/26/2021

    Beautiful, remote location, minimalist approach to site, pop up facilities clean, good local pubs

    Disliked:

    The site is set on quite a slope. There were level pitches but these are limited - if going at busy time, and camping in a level ground is an issue for you, then it would be worth checking ahead that there are sufficient number of level pitches.

A super camping space with great facilities and beautiful views.07/26/2021

    Great setup for a simple campsite that gives the feeling of remote and wild camping. The facilities, whilst simple, are fantastic. Clean, fresh and new - the little kitchen area, the washing up, the toilets and the hot showers are all very good indeed. Great views and lovely sunshine in the evening across the field - plenty of safe space for running around and playing games.

    Disliked:

    The field does slope quite a bit so it takes a bit of time to sort out a pitch that is relatively flat (for a van), but with some trial and error it worked fine.

    The peace and quiet, the lack of light pollution and the clean facilities. It's 'pop up' nature is a virtue IMO. The availability of a two burner cooker and pans is great for those back or bike packing.

    Very quiet site away from any hustle or bussle. Easy to find and facilities were good. We used the site as it was close to Goodwood Festival of speed. Would use again. Just park and pitch.

    Very clean and well maintained facilities;
    Well prepared for campers;
    Spacious field so spacious pitches, some mostly level pitches around the edges of the edge of the field but it is on a slope;
    Friendly owner;
    Showers, toilets (portaloos), kitchen and washing up area;
    Very handy for Goodwood (the reason we were staying there);
    Quiet campsite - near the road so some road noise in early evening but not much and was quiet through late evening and overnight;
    Quiet time was made clear to all campers and was respected so very peaceful site.

    Disliked:

    WiFi worked perfectly on my son's Samsung but not at all for my iPhone/iPad. Not a big deal but odd - Apple devices connected fine but wouldn't load any online content;
    A freezer facility for ice blocks would have been the cherry on top!

    Super stress free camping.

    Disliked:

    Camling Field is on a slope but level enough on the edges of the field, so you don't slide too much off your airbed at night. Super quiet. Nice field overall.
