Warbleton Farms Campsite: Plenty of places for kids to play

General

  • Peaceful back-to-basics site on a working farm in rural Sussex
  • A 20-minute drive from the beaches of the south coast
  • Firepit and cooking grid provided for each pitch

You’d be wise to arrive at Warbleton Farms with a plentiful stash of marshmallows – campfires are a big feature of life here and you don’t want to be in danger of snack envy upon spying your fellow guests’ after-dinner treats…

Those of you that aren’t in possession of a campfire-building badge from Scouts or Brownies (or if your skills have gone a touch rusty in the intervening years) will be chuffed to find that life has been made easy for you here: each pitch has its own firepit and grid so no worries about whether you’ve chosen a sensible spot. All there is for you to do is build and light the fire, crack open a cold drink and look impressed at your survival skills.

If it turns out that your survival skills don’t quite stretch to a full dinner, don’t worry – there are pubs within walking distance where you can have a good feed and sample a local ale or two.

Kids (and adults should you wish) can really roam free around here; with no cars outside of the designated parking areas it’s pretty safe to run about and play games. The lack of cars also means it’s mighty quiet should you choose to settle yourself into one of the hammocks in the woods and spend a bit of time communing with nature. Wildlife spotting opps abound in the woods and around the stream so keep your eyes peeled for passing beasties.

The back to basics vibe on this working arable farm means only minimal facilities, but you’re provided with drinking water and composting toilets. There isn’t even any wifi (no need to mention this to the kids – once they’re over the initial shock they’ll soon work out that it is indeed possible to survive offline).

Please note

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 8 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Unique rural camping with thoughtful touches09/30/2020

We've stayed here for a week in September. The pitches are very large and spaced far from each other. Throughout the campsite you can see thoughtful touches that owners have made - there are hammocks and rope swings tucked in behind the trees where you least expect them and plenty of nooks and places to explore. You can clearly tell that the owners take pride in what they do and really want guests to have the best time at the campsite. We loved having a private toilet at the pitch, especially given the current situation, not sharing the loo is important. The compost loo was very clean and smelled fresh. Both antibacterial soap and gel were supplied. Another positive is having a generously large picnic table at the pitch. And the stream running just behind our pitch made our stay truly unique! There are plenty of opportunities for walks and with a small wood on site with a most amazing and mysterious tree you never run out of things to do! We highly recommend this place and will be booking again!

    Disliked:

This is not a fault of a campsite, but during our stay our neighbours had a portable generator that they kept running for hours several times a day. This not only overpowered sounds of nature, but filled the air with a fine smell of combustion engine exhaust. But apart from that everything was perfect.

We stayed at Oak #2 pitch it was such a lovely place! Secluded and peaceful we loved the hammock the kids especially and we went on a lovely walk through the pines and found the most beautiful tree!

Vicky was very accommodating she came once a day and brought anything we needed promptly (fire wood kindle etc)

Non electric pitch but that was fine for us got the kids and us away from devices for a couple of nights.

The compost toilet had toilet roll, anti-bac hand wash and a bucket with water if you wanted to wash with the hand soap they provided too also two big containers of drinking water.

There’s 4 pitches in this particular part of the site and they are all spaced relatively far apart which was nice as didn’t feel like we were camping with anyone else on the site but also nice to hear others enjoying themselves.

Will definitely go to Warbleton Farms again! We thoroughly enjoyed this little corner of nature ❤️

...being allowed to roam around was great - we explored the woods, fields and streams around and about... we saw a herd of deer walking through the adjacent field, heard owls in the night, saw a family of buzzards (possibly!?) soaring overhead and on the last morning there were two sun-basking lizards on the pallet at the washing up station... all beautiful... LOVED how comfortable the king size mattress on the bed was in the Warbler's Bell Tent - gorgeous... loads of space for travel cot and our 6 year old enjoyed the camp bed... brilliant camp fires at night - great fire pit - generous bags of logs from the owner... compost toilet was grand... good location for getting out to Herstmonceaux Castle and the observatory - Hastings was further afield but enjoyable for a wander and fish & chips for tea (plenty places were happy to welcome our labrador in as well)... a very lovely and welcomed 4 day break...

Idyllic Camping!09/06/2020

  • Brooks #2 primitive grass tent or trailer tent site

  • Liked:

Brooks #2. Beautiful remote location with huge pitches. Fresh water supplied daily (though the canisters do not have taps on them), and a large sack of firelogs for £10 is good value. Sturdy picnic tables and idyllic firepits under the trees. Compost toilets clean and very handy in these socially distancing days.

You could easily fit 3 family tents on each pitch.

As a family with only one child we were very lucky to have neighbours with small children for ours to play with, otherwise it might be deemed too remote for those who like to interact with their neighbours.

Amazing owls calling in the forest - though only one night of the 3!

No problem parking by our pitch in fine weather - the Brooks field is on a slope and could be tricky to get out of with lots of rain, hence the description of 'no cars' by pitches.

And yes, Vicky is very friendly and helpful!

My Son and I stayed at Warbleton campsite for a couple of nights in mid August 2020. This was an impromptu visit and an opportunity to spend Dad & Son time together.

The location is excellent for visiting the historic sites at Herstmonceaux, Battle, Pevensey etc.

The campsite was secluded, clean and set in stunning countryside. With a compost loo next to our pitch and a great firepit we wanted for nothing in our two day stay. My son (20 years of age) decided to go back a few days later to the very same pitch with some of his mates so I think he had a great time.

Thank you Vicki for making us so welcome

Local attractions

Now that they’ve got a taste for country life, kids can play at being a farmer at Blackberry Farm, a 20-minute drive away. There are lots of friendly animals to meet here, and a daily schedule of activities including tractor rides, pony rides, pig feeding and egg collecting. There’s also a huge play area with a zip slide, trampolines, go-kart track, an assault course and heaps more for hours of entertainment.

Animals from all around the world are on show at Drusillas Park, 25 minutes away: wander around to see monkeys, camels, penguins and snakes among others. Pack the kids’ swimming cossies and they can splash about in the water play area, full of jets, fountains and geysers to keep them chilled on a warm day.

At Bentley Wildfowl & Motor Museum, half an hour away, you can feed the birds (around 1000 of them, across more than 100 different species), take a ride on the miniature railway and look around the collection of cars, motorbikes and other vehicles, some of which are more than 100 years old.

Even older is 15th-century Herstmonceux Castle, 20 minutes away; the moated castle is surrounded by a 300-acre estate made up of woods and formal gardens. Castle tours are available at certain times of day (check before you arrive) but you can always wander around the estate and, if you’re visiting in high season, perhaps take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

It’ll only take you about 20 minutes to drive to the coast for some beachy fun: head to Eastbourne for a classic British seaside resort beach, or make tracks for Pevensey Bay to find something a bit wilder. If you’d like to get on the water, a watersports centre in Eastbourne can sort windsurfing, sailing or paddleboarding from the beach.
