General

  • Spacious site on the edge of the Forest of Bowland
  • A 10-minute stroll from the market town of Barnoldswick
  • Leeds and Liverpool Canal five minutes' walk away

An immaculately-maintained site within easy reach of forest, dale and canalside walks, hikes and bike rides... sound just tiptop? Take yourself along to splendid little Bridge Holme Caravan Site for Lancashire – and Yorkshire – adventures in all the above plus a whole heap more.

'Beautiful', 'immaculate', 'lovely' and 'fantastic' are just a few (a very few) of the chuffed comments from former guests at this peaceful farm site among the Pennine Hills, where there's a friendly and relaxed vibe as well as a mighty helpful team. It's a spacious and grassy site, surrounded by historic towns and villages, cities, and protected woodlands, moorlands and open countryside.

Bridge Holme is nicely secluded but within easy reach of pretty much everything that might tickle your fancy: it's around 10 minutes' walk from bars, restaurants and shops in the market town of Barnoldswick; several Pennine cycle and bridleway routes also pass through the town, and miles of walking countryside are in the town surrounds.

The site is also only five minutes' walk from the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, which runs all the way to Skipton and its tearooms, pubs and big Saturday market. The mountain biking trails of Gisburn Forest are a short drive away, and there are more outdoor options for hiking, mountain biking and climbing in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, around 10 miles away.

Pitches are set in a level and mown one-acre field, with views over green countryside (and of the resident goats). The spotless amenities include toilets, chemical disposal, and hot showers for an additional fee (please note that the toilet and shower block will be closed from November to March).

A play park is adjacent to the site.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

A charge of £1.00 ($1.71) applies for the use of the shower.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Please note that the toilet and shower block will be closed from 31 October 2020 until 28 March 2021.

liked the ease of access from the A59 and into site. Loved the wide and deep pitches level and hardstanding. Good views from most pitches varying from distant hills to nearby fields. Owners friendly, helpful and always available if needed. The area has so much nearby to explore from Lancashire, Trough of Bowland and North Yorkshire all within 5 minutes. Lovely peaceful walks from site via quiet lanes to the town centre, nearby canal and nearby park. No traffic noise at all - just the sounds of nature and a low level distant hum of machinery/pumps from factories 50 meters away. Lots of farm animals on site but apart from the free range hens they are all safely fenced. Excellent mobile signal and satellite signal. Very clean shower and toilet facilities. Very secure with gated entrance right in front of the farmhouse.

    Disliked:

Only one water tap for the site which is not an issue when the hardstanding pitches are in use but I do wonder about the warmer months when the camping field opens up. Same with the one shower. There was no facility to drain off grey water and of course there are lots of flies but then again it is a farm site.

Location was ideal for us whilst we visited friends and family.

    Disliked:

The owner had gone away and had left no arrangements for the cleaning of communal areas. Consequently they were not cleared for the duration of our two night stay. Good job we were the only visitors. I hope this was an isolated incidence; they were cleaned daily when we stayed there the previous week.

Local attractions

Local town Barnoldswick is fably placed for Lancashire and Yorkshire adventures, as it's close to the Yorkshire Dales, the Forest of Bowland, the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, and hiking/biking paths to keep one occupied for weeks. The town's on the lower slopes of Weets Hill; for a scenic hike, make your way south of Barnoldswick to to Letcliff Country Park and the start of a six and a half mile walk over the local limestone plateau.

If you seek even headier times, cross over the Lancashire border to reach the Yorkshire Dales, where the intrepid can tackle the limestone cliffs of Kilnsey, Malham Cove and Gordale Scar within 30 to 40 minutes of Bridge Holme. Slightly less actively, the mountain bike trails around Gisburn Forest (in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) are 35 minutes' drive away.

Ready now for more sedate pursuits? The shopping centre and castle of Clitheroe are within 25 minutes' drive and Saltaire and Salt Mill within 40. Further afield, Leeds is an hour and 10 minutes away and York an hour and a half.

Must see

  • Gawthorpe Hall (15.4 kilometers)
  • Bronte Parsonage Museum (18.4 kilometers)
  • East Riddlesden Hall (NT) (20.8 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Gawthorpe Hall (15.6 kilometers)
