General

  • Peaceful glamping on a farm in a secluded forest clearing
  • A mile from Thurstaston beach; half an hour's drive from Chester
  • On-site café, gift shop and farm park; direct access to the Wirral Way

Little Hat in the Glade is a secluded site near the Dee Estuary. Head here for peaceful stays in a forest clearing and to be within walking distance of wildlife havens like Thurstaston beach and the Wirral Way. This is also a bike-friendly destination: National Cycle Network Route 56 runs right outside the site entrance.

The accommodation here is well spaced out for added peace and privacy. Each tent also has a gas stove and all-inclusive cooking kit to help you rustle up open-air meals. The accommodation area is fairly off-grid and doesn't have mains electricity, but guests have access to handy charging points; there are also fairy lights strewn among the trees for atmospheric lighting after dark…

All that peace and quiet is a few steps from a lively farm, which is home to a café, gift shop and plenty of friendly (and kid-pleasing) animal inhabitants.

Fancy stepping out? The local pub is about a 10-minute stroll from the site entrance; you can also head through the fields to the nearby village of Irby (about 20 minutes), where there are various takeaways, pubs and a well-stocked food shop. For sweet treats at the waterside, make tracks for Thurstaston beach (15 minutes' walk) to grab an ice cream at the café at Wirral Country Park.

How thoughtful the site has been developed. Only 3 bell tents, at the moment so it felt quiet and away from the crowds. Each tent was superbly kitted out, so that you could just turn up and enjoy the peace and quiet. The communal areas are great too. Showers & toilet block, very clean, plus a lovely covered area, with a fire and seats. Lindsey as so easy to communicate with and did everything to ensure we had a good time. Walks from the door, we didn't get back in the car until we went home. Very close to the Wirral way. It would be great place to come with a larger group and have exclusive use.

Beautiful off-grid bell tent accommodation with comfy beds. Very smart interior, everything provided inc bedding and cooking equipment which made the stay easy! We loved being in the pine forest off the beaten track, although there was still good access to paths, woods, and the beach. There is a decent pub within walking distance and a farm park, which we didn't go to but looked like a great option for the kids. The toilet/ shower facilities were great, the compostable element worked well and all very clean and tidy. Being off grid the owners have to turn on the generator to have hot water/ showers, but they turn up to do this at any time on request. Very friendly owners, we really enjoyed our stay.

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike. perhaps would have been good, in these times of social distancing, if the 3rd compostable toilet was finished so each tent could have their own shower and toilet facilities, but this a minor quibble.

We had a lovely stay here. It's so secluded and off grid with only 3 tents on site. The tent was lovely and all necessities were supplied. Lyndsey was lovely and so helpful providing everything we needed and making us welcome. Honestly can't find a fault with the experience. It was perfect.
