General
- Spacious site within Blakemere Village shopping and recreation centre
- Microbrewery, falconry displays, adventure playground and restaurant
- Within half an hour's drive of Chester Zoo and Blue Planet Aquarium
Calling all archers… also potters, shoppers and falcon fans… Blakemere Touring Caravan Park is a prime slice of Cheshire countryside, a few minutes’ drive from the village of Sandiway. You might never make it to Sandiway though, for this site is part of Blakemere Village, a top destination for shopping, noshing, market rummaging and experiences artistic and adventurous.
Whereas your average village might contain a pub, a shop and a church, Blakemere has a shopping centre in a block of converted Edwardian stables, alongside a microbrewery and miniature railway. It might also be the only village where you can saunter from the archery range to an antiques market, or slot a falconry display alongside making and painting your own mugs...
This is a well-maintained site with bright, roomy washrooms, hot showers and separate facilities for families.
If you’re peckish, the restaurant is open from 8.30am until 5pm (later on certain evenings), and if you fancy dining outdoors, barbecues are allowed, pick up provisions at the shop and do your chopping, grating and dicing in the food prep area. The kids might be so chuffed with the adventure playground and the chillout games room that they offer to do the washing up…
Dogs are welcome: the adjacent Mersey Forest makes a fine venue for walks with canine companions and there’s a tap to hand for the cleaning off of muddy paws.

Local attractions
With Blakemere Village containing a city’s worth of stuff to do and see, no-one would blame you for staying put and savouring it all... if you do fancy venturing further afield though, Cheshire is chock full of options...
Perhaps the on-site birds of prey aviary and falconry displays have piqued your interest? If so, take a trip to Chester Zoo and its underwater equivalent, the Blue Planet Aquarium (both 25 minutes’ drive), for encounters furry, fanged and cute. For a closer look at wildlife, Wood Lane Nature Reserve and the nearby Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Mosses (50 minutes) draw birdwatchers and walkers in search of avocets and herons, adders and flesh-eating bog plants.
If that sounds a bit alien, beetle over to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre to take a look at the universe through the Lovell Telescope, or travel back to 13th-century times at Beeston Castle, both 25 minutes away. Don’t forget rock and pop history at The Cavern 50 minutes away in Liverpool, along with the Tate gallery, the busy waterfront and the ferries across the Mersey…
