- On the edge of the Peak District, a 10-minute drive from Leek
- Half an hour from Buxton, Stoke-on-Trent and Alton Towers
Scouring the web for a serene space to spend a few nights away in your caravan or motorhome? Hightail it to Heaton House Farm for a stint in stunning countryside on the edge of the Peak District National Park. This site is set amid 165 acres of grounds with views across the lovely landscapes of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire from grass pitches that have been reinforced with strong subterranean mesh so they'll be nice and sturdy under your wheels.
There’s much to do around this gorgeous getaway spot in Rushton Spencer, including taking walks by Rudyard Lake (10 minutes’ drive) and across the rocky ridge of The Roaches (20 minutes).
For an adrenaline rush, head to Alton Towers theme park (half an hour) or stay closer by at the Madrenaline Activity Centre (15 minutes’ walk) for archery, skybowing, axe throwing, Segway racing and – perhaps the highlight – rolling down a hill in a sphere.
The park is also half an hour’s drive from Buxton to the north and Stoke-on-Trent to the south. Pubs and restaurants aplenty are a cinch to source for eats within a six-mile radius, including in the market town of Leek (10 minutes).
Toilets and showers are available on request and water and there are Elsan points for use.

Local attractions
When pottering around the Peak District, don’t miss the postcard-pretty villages. Leek (10 minutes’ drive) is a first-rate spot to kick off explores – as its nickname 'Queen of the Staffordshire Moorlands' suggests. Wander along the cobbled market square and scan the buildings for detailing from the Arts and Crafts design era.
When it’s time to fuel up on food, peruse the menus at independent pubs and restaurants or grab grub to go from one of the stalls in the restored Victorian Butter Market. Buxton (30 minutes) is another fine place for foodies and also appeals to history buffs with its genteel Georgian spa town architecture.
Craving the countryside? Get your fix at the Victorian garden in the National Trust’s Biddulph Grange Country Park (15 minutes). Planted with horticultural specimens from all around the world, it’s a fascinating spot for a stroll.
For nature that’s a little less manicured, dawdle across the Dovedale stepping stones in a valley that leads up to Thorpe Cloud hill (40 minutes’ drive). After taking in the views across the bumpy landscape, trot off for 20 minutes over to Ilam, a tiny village with a tiptop country estate for ambles beside the clear river in 158 acres of parkland before rounding off the trip with treats at the tearoom.
