General

  • Countryside site with its own bar and restaurant serving homemade food
  • A 20-minute drive from Chester, 45 from Liverpool and 55 from Rhyl
  • Beer garden, wifi at the pub and locally sourced meals available

Foodies might want to whisk themselves off to Carriages Touring and Camp Site for eats aplenty in Cheshire: this park has its own pub and restaurant serving homemade meals... and is five minutes' drive from The Ice Cream Farm for copious scoops of dessert.

If filling up on fare isn’t why you’re heading to the area (tsk), the site’s also well placed for Cheshire countryside adventures and activities, with the mile-long Crocky Trail’s slides, rope swings, climbs and chain bridge five minutes’ drive away. The Sandstone Trail is accessible within 15 minutes’ drive at either Tarpoley or Frodsham for wanders of a more challenging nature on a 34-mile long-distance hikers’ path, and it's 20 minutes' drive from Carriages to city days at Chester.

A stay at this site means there’s no need to limit yourself to exploring England either, as the wide, sandy beaches of north Wales around the seaside resort of Rhyl are within 50 minutes’ drive.

Electric showers, an Elsan point and water and toilet facilities are all on site for guests' use. And then (back) to the bar and restaurant to sample locally sourced food made freshly to order: take it out to the beer garden or sort your own alfresco eats at the handy barbecue area.

blocked toilets with sewage all over the floor

From the manager...

Thank you 'Anonymous' for your review as it gives us the opportunity to respond.
Let us get the facts right first. The toilets were checked and cleaned at 8.15am on the Sunday, as they are every day. They were checked again at 9.30am and again no problems. By this time, you and your party were the only ones left on site and the toilets were again checked at 10.45am to be found that the toilets had been blocked by numerous items, blue roll and the like. Even though this was evident your children found great pleasure in using the toilets and depositing their business in the toilet. They again took great pleasure in then continuing to flush the toilet until YOUR sewage overflowed onto the floor. Not content with that they decided to try it in the other cubicle to see if they could do the same. You approached the owner to deny that it was you or any of your party as 'you had had a word with them' even though they were observed coming in and out of both cubicles laughing and running back to your pitches. No apologies were forthcoming other than denials. Due to covid you were advised to use your own facilities that you had available although the use of our facilities is welcomed provided that you keep them clean and tidy. I cannot understand, that if, as you say, the toilets were blocked before hand would you then deposit your business in them and then continue to flush them to then have the sewage deposit on the floor. Hilarious it may have been for your children but not to ourselves who had to clean it up!!
We are very happy that you have decided not to return nor recommend us to any of your friends. After a very busy summer season, you have been by far the worst group of people we have had on site.

It was really quiet. Picturesque area close to a village shop with deli a short drive away and the city of Chester also only about 6 miles. The steak we had at the restaurant was cooked to perfection. The toilet and shower was clean but only 2 cubicles so it would be busy in peak season but it’s camping so we don’t mind. Really enjoyed ourselves... we will be back. Thank you 😊

Had a fantastic time at Carriages. It was our first trip as campers in our campervan and it was a great experience. The pub is just across the field where we had lovely fish and chips and there were great shower and toilet facilities as well as fresh water all really handy. We were made very welcome too and will definitely return!

From the manager...

Thank you Jacqueline for the great review, and we are pleased to read all of the positive comments. We are sorry that your electric kept shorting out, we know that when everyone has the correct equipment within their unit there isn't an issue, but unfortunately, we've discovered that a kettle from home is often the culprit and think this may have been the problem with your neighbour.

If you’d rather browse bargains than amble around with the animals, the 145 discount stores at Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet are 20 minutes away.
