General
- Peaceful adults-only touring park in rural North Yorkshire
- A 15-minute drive from central York; bus stop just outside
- Woodland walk from the site to local village and tearooms
First thing you want/need after a long journey to your temporary abode? Cup of tea, surely – and all the better if it comes with a warm welcome and something to nibble on…
So hats off to Lin and Graham, the owners of The Bungalow Caravan Site, who do their utmost to greet all guests at their North Yorkshire park, and have frequently been known to pop round with a scone or two for weary new arrivals. The presence of home baking is just one of many things to like about this quiet adults-only site; top of the list must be the location, in a spot surrounded by open countryside and yet a mere 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of York.
This handy setting makes it a cinch to get out and explore the local area, whether you’re aiming to take city days, visit market towns and villages or wander through countryside (the rural ramble to the tearooms in Moreby village is particularly recommended). Getting out and about is easy even if you don’t fancy the drive: there are woodland walks to be had right by the site, and there’s a bus stop just outside where you can flag down a ride into town.
Touring pitches here are all kitted out for all-season use and each has access to a 16-amp hookup (there are no toilets or showers though, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient on that front). Dogs are welcome on site, but they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times.

Local attractions
To get out and about locally, there’s fishing available less than half a mile away, and horse riding two miles away; you could also easily head up to Naburn Marina (three miles away), where there’s boat hire and a café, or go for a stroll around Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens (five minutes’ drive).
For more rural escapades, head over to Burnby Hall Gardens (half an hour) to wander through the Victorian Garden and Secret Garden and walk by the lakes – at their very best in midsummer, when more than 100 varieties of water lilies burst into bloom. A trip on the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (40 minutes) is a splendid way to see some more of the local scenery.
Up for some urban time? York (15 minutes’ drive or bus ride) is top of the list for most – for minster visits, river cruises and shopping on The Shambles – but it’s worth taking a look at Selby (15 minutes) and Leeds (40 minutes) too if you’ve got a little more time on your hands.
